For more info on using xPlusz ===> http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=79110#post79110
If you have previously used any of the locals scripts like mvchannels or the xPlusz #60 command, you should first, before using this upgrade, do a mvchannels reset or xPlusz command #61. Read the current thread for more info and this ===> http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21100
Thanks to Dennis (dsboyce8624) for a new download site, we are releasing an upgrade for v25xtreme.
xtreme upgrade - V3.1.0 or V2.5.2 upgrade with xPlusz
by superzap, AlphaWolf and the dealdatabase.com regulars
This will upgrade your v2.5 DTiVo to v2.5.2 or
upgrade your v2.5 or v2.5.2 DTiVo to v3.1.0
works on all series 1 DirecTiVos, Sony, Phillips, Hughes
Before doing this upgrade you must understand the advantages and disadvantages. v3.1.0 is new and not all hacks are working, P4 required. v2.5.2 is a little more stable than v2.5 Any special hacks will be lost and need to be re-installed. Most of the popular hacks are included. Recorded programs, season passes and most other settings will be retained. For more info read the forumsfiles distributed: xupgrade.zip (contains xupgrade.iso and README)packages included: xPlusz v3.10 tivo command set (ls, joe, find, tivoftpd, etc.) noscramble, turbonet support tivoweb v1.9.4 final (includes whatson v1.11 and MfsStream)README attached.
READ THIS BEFORE UPGRADING TO v3.1.0: There is a bug in the tivo os v3.1.0 that shows up in the EventSwitcher. If you want to run any TCL scripts like noppv, mvchannels, tivotitle, etc., on a schedule, the v3.1.0 EventSwitcher will die in a couple of days and the TCL scripts won't run until you reboot.
Since xPlusz is written in TCL it will be affected and will quit working when this problem occurs. A reboot is the only known remedy and rebooting on a schedule should prevent this. The next release of xPlusz will include an option to automatically do reboots on a schedule.
v2.5 and v2.5.2 does not have this problem. I doubt that tivo has any plans to fix this and unfortunately v3.1.0 is probably the last upgrade that there will be for series 1 dtivos.

Thanks for the new release! Just a few minor questions for those of us looking to rape a virgin T60 .....
I have a virgin T60 that I want to upgrade the hard drive and Xtreme at the same time, hopefully eliminating the need to move the drive between the PC and DTIVO more than once. My plan is to take the original drive and store it in the closet as a backup. What is the best way to go about it?
Can I do the following?
1. Place new virgin 120G drive into PC
2. Boot off Xtreme ISO, install Xtreme25 onto the drive.
3. While drive is still in PC, insert upgrade ISO CD (per above post), and install 3.1 upgrade with "-p" option to flash the T60 when it boots the first time
4. Place 120G drive in T60 and power up the unit
???
Or will the original Xtreme's first boot/flash process conflict with the flash option of the 3.1 upgrade? If there is no conflict, do I need to use the "-p" option during the upgrade process (#3 above) or not?
Thanks for the new release!

You should check what's on it first. If it's 2.5x just use the new one. If you need to use 25Xtreme, you need to reboot to get it all installed and setup. Then you can use the serial to upload the new one and do it without putting the drive in the PC.

In reference to my above post, there will be nothing on the drive as it will be brand new. So I guess I still need to flash the DTIVO box via the 2.5 initial startup BEFORE doing the upgrade, correct?

There's no need to install v25xtreme or flash the prom before using the xupgrade. Just follow the installation instructions method A or B and use the -p option to flash the prom.
I used xupgrade on a brand new T60 (v2.5 from factory) right out of the box.

Ok, sorry I read "virgin T60" but it looks like maybe it's a virgin T60 and the HD is being replaced with a new unused HD.

To clarify for botcher, you'll need to add a couple of steps:
1. Place new virgin 120G drive into PC
2. Boot off Xtreme ISO, install Xtreme25 onto the drive.
3. Choose to run dtivomad to use all of the 120G HD.
4. Put HD back in dtivo and let boot untill you see the acquiring sat info screen.
5. Put drive back into PC, insert upgrade ISO CD (per above post), and install 3.1 upgrade (-p option is not necessary but won't hurt).
6. Place 120G drive in T60 and power up the unit

This makes sense if someone hasn't flashed their prom yet, but if I've already flashed my prom on a previous update, can I take a blank drive, install xupgrade 3.1, then put that into my DTivo and start fresh? I'm thinking of setting my current drives off to the side and taking my time.
Thanks, hope this isn't a dumb question.

This is an upgrade to an existing TiVo OS. It is not a full blown OS.
There needs to be an OS allready on the drive for it to upgrade.

Like they say, the only dumb questions are the ones not asked. :)
You need dtivo software on the HD before xupgrade will work. You could just clone your HD using mfstool or dd. Or install v25xtreme on the new HD if you don't care about the recorded shows.

I have a few friends here that want to modify their S1 DTiVos with all the upgrades listed here. I am too busy to do them by hand for them. I would use this tool, but I want to know the answer to these questions first....
* Can I install this without putting 25Xtreme on their system first?(this is NOT a new HDD, just their original HDD)
* Can I safely remove the piece that allows that allows the system to continue without phone calls home? (I know...I am wierd like that)
Are both of these things possible?
Also, does it come with a free football phone? Are you going to send the swimsuit people over? ...oh wait...wrong questions...

Yes but you must first do the 2 drive Xtreme install and reboot. Then do this upgrade.

* Can I safely remove the piece that allows that allows the system to continue without phone calls home? (I know...I am wierd like that)You don't have to remove anything. If you don't activate the xPlusz NOPHONE option, everthing else should work ok providing you have a subbed P4.
Are you just wanting this for file access or? If you connect a phone line, the tivo service will try to upgrade the software. You could put in a dialing prefix like 9 so that outgoing calls will fail, but then after 31 days of not making a successful call you will get daily nag messages. The subbed P4 with tivo service activated will keep the recording feature going. My answers are directed toward doing a v3.1.0 upgrade, the v2.5.2 os works mostly like v2.5.

Make sure BOTH the upgrd252.tcl and v252.tar files are in /var/hack and that you "cd /var/hack" before you run "./upgrd252.tcl" as the README says.
If you don't run the upgrd252.tcl script from /var/hack and/or if the v252.tar file isn't in /var/hack, it will give that error.

Did the upgrade to 2.5.2. Worked like a charm on my DSR. Very smooth. Thank you all very much indeed.
Small observations: In the readme you didn't mention any defaults for the xPlusz settings. Maybe in future releases you could provide a few typical settings? Also, it's likely there but I couldn't find where it says the big yellow pause button is the "," key.
I'm happy. If this fixes my weekly reboot I'll be in heaven.

Any trick to getting xPlusz up and running? None of the codes seem to work for me. The only additional thing that I did after the upgrade was to run the airnet install CD to get my wireless card working again. Now, my wireless is working just fine, but I can't seem to get xPlusz running so that I can turn on the ftp and telnet. Isn't it supposed to be running by default? Any trick to this?

From the readme:
xPlusz v3.10 will be installed with either of the upgrades. Most all of the features are turned off by default. Use the commands to activate the features you want.
A new command, named xp can be used to activate functions from bash. The xp command just gives another way, instead of the call waiting prefix, to run xPlusz commands. The pause key is explained right on the screen when you're entering the call waiting prefix. Standard tivo procedure.

The airnet install must have broke something. Try getting the xplusz310.zip and reinstalling. If you still have problems, I need to see:

Did you use winimage or other iso utility to extract the files? Or burn the image and copy?
Enter this command:

and copy the output to a post here.
Make sure the v252.tar file is named exactly like that, all lower case alpha.

LOL. Nice try, Yazhol.
Each version of the dtivo os has a different version of boot299.btl. So if you installed v2.5.2 over v2.5 you will see a slightly different boot299.btl and a bunch of other file differences also.

whenever the tivo software gets upgraded, the new software is put on the unused system partition. because of that, any old hacks need to be re-applied. tivolater applies some hacks for you, but any special files you replaces (such as a btl file) will need to be replaced after the upgrade. as was stated, the btls are different for each software version we have seen so far

I am trying to download this now.
Does this upgrade the prom on the tivo?
If I did a 'dd' on my 2.5.0 drive to a new drive and applied the 3.1 on the new drive would I be able to go back to the 2.5 drive?
Or is the Prom updated to not allow me to go backwards?
Thanks for all your hard work on this upgrade!
superzap

No prom update is done if your prom was previously flashed with the hacked prom image as is done with v25xtreme. And the hacked prom flash is only done if you request it and it needs to be done. So you can clone your drive to a new drive, install the upgrade and then if you don't like the upgrade you can use your original drive.

I'm a little confused.
I currently have extreme 2.5 running with kravens update. If I upgrade to the 3.1 version of extreme, will I still need the tier for the PVR functionality or will my extreme image carry me through without the tier because of the prom flash that happened with extreme 2.5?
Also, I was wondering if someone could package just the files needed for the upgrade for those of us going over bash. Hopefully that will be a lot smaller than the 50 meg iso.
superzap
01-17-2003, 06:24 PM
If you upgrade to v3.1 you will need the tivo tier to record. That has nothing to do with the tivo prom.
Get the readme form my 1st post and you'll see the the files transferred to the tivo are extracted from the iso and are about 14MB.

Lots of post on deal have been about local channels. If you're not hacking DTV you don't need these. What's the big deal about wanting to use an HU card? I respect the rules, just don't see the point? Why is hacking DTV cool sometimes and other times not? It's not like asking for a 3M, Act, or a bin. Why can't we talk about using an HU card on 3.1? It's hacking the TiVo software not the card. I always thought hacking the TiVo software was the point of this Forum? I understand not hacking DTV (cards)!

The TiVo files you speak of, are directly tied into the authorization process of DirecTv's Access Card. If hacking these becomes rampant and largely public, then the powers that be will be forced to do something about, ruining the existing possibilities for all... Not to mention this board being shut down by some aggressive lawyers. There are plenty of other forums where this type of thing is welcomed. Do it there, that's all. The owners of this forum have decided on what is permissible here, lets respect them and move on.
superzap

Try running xPlusz command #61, that should do a mvchannels reset. If you've never done an xPlusz command before, just enter #61 into the call waiting prefix from the phone dialing options menu, press select once, and wait a few minutes while it runs until you see Succeeded. Or you could enter xp "#61" from bash.

This hack in no way benefits your use of the tivo dvr, it only benefits how you access directv. Think of this as a rule of thumb: if you can't do it to a standalone tivo unit, its a directv hack.
Directv hacking should be brought elsewhere than here, such as dsschat.

Is there a list of benifits that the 2.5.2 and 3.1 software give you posted somewhere? What other then "more stable" does 2.5.2 give you, i.e. features. Same question for 3.1?
In the previous post dsschat was mentioned, can someone point me to a good server/channel for dsschat?
The only thing I've done to my unit is run xtreme25 on it, do I need to manually upgrade my prom or does the upgrade to it?
One last question for clairfication. It's mentioned that the upgrade de-activate current hacks, does this mean it overwites all the files (boot files) that ran the previous mods? The reason I ask is I want to know if there are any files I need to manually remove old mods from?

nothing really new in 2.5.2 over 2.5, other than stability. a few minor internal changes, but nothing to write home about.
3.1 has faster menus better stability. it also has unofficial broadband support, so you can easily use your tivonet or turbonet.

the files are not overwritten. there are two system partitions, hda4 and hda7. if your system was on hda4, then it will install the new system on hda7, leaving the old one untouched. you dont need to do anything to your current setup to upgrade...though i would suggest turning off multiple locals if you have that turned on.

Something dev'ers should be weary of in the 3.1 software, the eventswitcher likes to just randomly die all the time, can't realy figure out why. It's impossible to start it up again without rebooting the tivo. This makes any 'event' calls in tivosh very unusable.
It's been like this since the early beta way back in may, so I don't think tivo has any intentions of fixing it. Just only use event calls as a last resort.
Hey all...
Finally downloaded SuperZap's xupgrade for my DSR6000.
Everything went well I guess with both the TCL and TAR files getting loaded into the VAR/Hack directory zmodem.
I couldn't figure out how to switch the baud rate from 9600 to 115200 without losing my bash prompt. The files were uploaded at 9600 which took like 4hrs for the V252.tar file
Current issue I am having is when I goto run the ./upgrd252.tcl I get an error message of Permission Denied.

Thanks,
Dave The old partition is used again when another tivo os upgrade comes along. It can't be used for recording, the recordings are stored only in the mfs partition. There are 10 or more partitions used by the tivo os.
Multiple locals are what you stated and do not get set with this software upgrade unless you specifically do something to add locals.
Hello SuperZap...
Thanx alot for the information. I thought that I may have to do chmod to make it executable.
Anyways,I proceeded on the install but in extracting the files, my V252.tar file is all in CAPS. When running the program it looks for lower case letter's of the file. Can I just re-type the file in lower case without causing any issues?.
I didn't think case sensitivity would be an issue.

Yes, linux is case sensitive on file names and most everything else. If your tar file is in all caps just rename it with the mv command:
mv V252.tar v252.tar
or
mv V252.TAR v252.tar
Awesome!...
Worked flawlessly!. The extracting and upgrade to the hard drive seemed to work great!
Last message is that the upgrade is complete and attempting to re-boot.
Is this the end of the upgrade?. I am safe to disconnect the serial cable and hook it up to my Sat Dish?. Or do I need to wait for the re-boot process before I shut down my terminal?

As stated in the readme, nothing is activated by default after the xupgrade is done. Refer to the readme for activating the functions with xPlusz commands. For example, run #43,1 for telnet, #45,1 for tivoweb, #46,1 for tivoftpd, etc. Reboot if you change these types of options that need to be started at boot-up.
Here's some of the functions explained:
NOPHONE - allows your TiVo sub to continue to remain active without a phone connection (also controls the logs).
ADDLOCALS will allow you to add multiple sets of locals (mvchannels).
T30SS will automatically set 30 seconds skip feature on each reboot.
NOPPV will reset the PPV indicator on PPV channels at daily call.
FIXDEMO will reset demo mode periodically (default every 3 mins).
EBD will automatically enable backdoors on each reboot.
CALLERID will display caller-id on screen (phone line required).
The batch save feature will allow you to save multiple programs to VCR.
TIVOTITLE will change the title of shows adding the description.
TEMPMON will monitor the TiVo's temperature and issue an alert on the screen if the temperature exceeds a threshold you specify.
NOSDD will help you further opt out of TiVo's automatic software downloads and changes to your DirecTiVo unit. It is designed to prevent any type of software download/update whatsoever, including (no way around this) the showcases and tivolution magazine.
Others are (they should have obvious meaning):
TELNET READONLY TIVOWEB TIVOFTPD NOSCRAMBLE SMBFS NFS

No disrespect I want to follow the rules and everything because I love this forum and a lot of your posts have been helpful to me but... What use are the local scripts on a standalone? I've never really messed around with the PPV scripts but what use are these on a standalone? Maybe the PPV script would, but still I don't see what use the locals would have. Maybe I'm wrong but I've always looked at it this way. If it has something to do with hacking the card it self, don't talk about it. If it's the TiVo software go for it, everything goes. Just seems like splitting hairs.

Both of these scripts alone only alter the way the tivo functions, its still up to your access card to determine whether or not you can view the channels or events that these scripts change.

Question about this feature... With having to have a phone line plugged in to use this feature if you put garbage numbers in the Dial Prefix like say ##8675309 it would in effect keep the tivo from dialing out over the phone line for updates correct? Or is there an error in my thinking?

That is what I'm saying! If you hack your 3.1 software (your TiVo HD) to work with HU cards it still takes your access card to determine whether or not you can view the channels or events that these scripts change or in this case patch same difference. That's why I don't understand how this has to do with DirecTV hacking. DirecTV hacking is the card! TiVo hacking is the HD. The rules have always went this way before. Making a 3.1 run on an HU card should be okay, as long as you don?t talk about hacking Access cards. Again no disrespect to you or anyone else. Sorry I just don't understand.
Boy I am glad that I was ablw to obtain the xupgrade file for my DSR6000.
Just alittle quick step-by-step which I took to update my DSR6000 from 2.5.1 to 2.5.2 with SuperZap's update.
1) Hook serial cable up to TIVO unit.
2) Obtained Bash Prompt using TeraTermPro.
3) cd / ( For Root Directory)
4) cd /var/hack
5) zmodem the files to current hack directory.
6) Files V252.TAR & UPGRD252.TCL where in Caps. Need to change to lower case.
7) Files changed from Upper Case to Lower Case by typing this..... mv V252.TAR v252.tar & mv UPGRD252.TCL upgrd252.tcl
8)chmod +x upgrd252.tcl to make file executable.
9) ./upgrd252.tcl
10) After message of 2.5.2 successfully installed... unplug and connect to dish.
11) Enjoy all new "features" along with Xplusz
Kewl...

JimBliss I'm with you. I want to have several locals at the same time. To get this I believe I need to do some hacking of both my HD and my card. I could do these if I knew what to do! I understand why we can't go into card alterations here. But like you I don't understand why we can't discuss unrelated issues.
Perhaps I have an idea. If we make FAQ's for these touchy subjects and host them off this server might that not cover it?
Then when a newbe asks about the seven deadly's we just direct him to the correct FAQ file. This plan would of course require a large number of experts to pool their wisdom and keep these FAQ's up to date. Otherwuse the newbe's would ignore them. Also these files would have to be clearly written, step by step. The How-To's we have now are for DTivos only and not related.
Telling people to go to another site to talk about DTivos is not a good idea. The other sites know a lot about cards but nothing about Tivos. This is the site for that. It's the card-Tivio interface that's the problem. Let's not let paranoia get going.

The cam ID check is an access card security measure. Normal receivers have this check. Thats like saying if you apply a nozkt mod to a tivo, its not helping you hack directv any. You are removing a security measure which is designed with only one purpose in mind.
The sti5505 only controls everything relating to decoding the signal coming from directv. Modifying the respective oslink boot script in any way serves no purpose other than to hack directv.

Sounds reasonable to keep directv off of dd's backs, but remember that even linking to "dangerous" information is a violation of the DMCA, you just have to improvise a loophole.

What happens when you try to play the shows? Were you running noscramble? Did you have KRavEN's original v2.5 upgrade installed?
If you were running noscramble before, you need to turn it on again. Noscramble is not activated by default with this upgrade.
To activate noscramble immediately, run the #54,1 xPlusz command. You can do this in a couple of ways. Enter #54,1 in the Call Waiting Prefix from the Phone Options menu. Or enter
xp "#54,1"
from bash.
If you want noscramble activated automatically every time your unit reboots, run command #47,1. You can display which xPlusz options are currently activated by running #0#12.

/hack/SendKey tivo

I would not put all that stuff back into rc.sysinit. And whatever you put in there make sure that the bash startup is last.
You probably lost the SendKey command you had in /hack. All those old hacks are left on the alternate old root partition.
xPlusz comes with a SendKey.
Try adding this:
/hack/bin/xPlusz/SendKeyWaitsz.tcl 4 select enter enter 9 1 enter enter 9 livetv
If you want to enable backdoors use the EBD xPlusz option. If you want to enable the 30 sec skip use the xPlusz T30SS option.

Any idea where I would find the pre-existing 2.5.2 sceen on my setup now or where I could place my own file to take the place of the generic one? I've done some searching on my tivo HD via telnet and can't find that png anywhere on it now and can't find a cs22 that is that screen either. It's not a major deal, just thought it would be cool if I could customize my DTivo. :)

As far as mvchannels goes, my Tivo thinks that I live in San Fransisco after a full reload. I'm now running 3.1, but I live in the Boston area, so adding Boston Channels leaves me with the lack of program data for my own home area. How can I change my Tivo to think that it's home location is Boston, and not San Fran?
Also, in the mvchannels file channels.dat, can you delete the standard channels from the list so that it doesn't take as long to run through the mvchannels script every time? I mean channel like PPV and ESPN, etc.
I'm mostly concerned with getting my tivo back to knowing where home is, and then I want to add additional locals afterward.

Your Tivo thinks it's in SF because your "card" tells it so. Fix your "card", and it will regain its composure.

No, with my subbed P4 which I have no capability of changing, it has been a San Fran tivo ever since I rebuilt it. I use a virgin 2.0 image from the server, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I've tried mvlocals, and I can add the Boston channels and watch them, but I can't get guide information or get rid of the San Fran channels. I'm not interested in running multilocals, just getting mine to work.
Any ideas?
thanks
btw, I have an HU card that is only boston as well, and it works tuning in boston channels, but my tivo still thinks that home is san fran.

If you have a subbed P4 call directv and tell them your locals aren't working and they should fix. It's on the card like BubbleLamp said. I wouldn't try any locals scripts like mvchannels in your case.

superzap,
I'm hesitant to call Dave, as I do have the means to verify that I'm on the proper locals with an HU card. My locals work, it's just the default locals are whacked out. Is the selectlocals.tcl better than the mvchannels? will it make any difference? I don't think it's anything a daily call can fix, because my box makes successful daily calls. I'll let it sit, I suppose, but it's pretty weird, and my situation seems to be one that is unique.
I appreciate the help, might just have to rebuild again. Do you think it could be the 2.0 virgin t60 image that I used from the net?
Thanks

Did you set the correct zip code on the receiver? I don't think it really matters, I believe it just uses that info to tell you where to point the dish. Sure sounds like a card issue to me. The fact that you can verify correct locals with an HU tends to reinforce that. So you either aren't paying for locals on your subbed P4, or you never told Dave you moved to Boston from SF!;)

Super,
Thanks for all your help got 310 up now, not hanging. Now that I'm up xPlusz doesn't seem to work right. When I enter a command in the call waiting it comes back and says "terminating: 2 or more running". I did have xPlusz installed before the upgrade.

I've successfully upgraded from Xtreme 2.5 to Xtreme 3.1. Excellent work guys. This is an extremely nice upgrade and does exactly what it says it does in the Readme. I haven't had to bother anyone with more than a minor question.
Only issue I had was with DHCP but I've had the issue since 2.5 and seems to be on my end (Click Here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15091) if you want to read the thread). Instead, I use a static IP address by making a small modification to the /etc/rc.net file. This is the new /etc/rc.net (with changes in boldface):
--- BEGIN: /etc/rc.net ---
#!/bin/bash
# Copyright (c) 2001-2002 TiVo Inc.
#
if [ "$DEBUG_BOARD" != true -o "$dhcp" == true ]; then
if detectDynamicNet; then
# mkdir -p /var/state/dhcp
# /sbin/dhclient -q "$DYNAMIC_NET_DEV" 2>/dev/null &
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.200 up
fi
fi
/etc/rc.d/rc.remote-login &
---- END: /etc/rc.net ----
Congratulations and glad to see there is still alot of quality work out there!

It will upgrade Xplusz to version 3.1 and certain items are on by default. You will need to verify if the functions you want on are those.

If you've added any local channels with command #60, run command #61 before doing the upgrade. And your xPlusz settings should carry over automatically to the upgrade.

Your space problem has nothing to do with this upgrade.
Go back and start over and install v25xtreme. Make the 80GB drive the A drive and the 40GB the B drive. Make sure you put both the drives in the pc when you run v25xtreme and answer "y" to the question "Would you like to run DirecTivoMad now". When finished put the drives in the dtivo and let it boot. Then check the amount of space it reports. After you're satisfied it's correct, do the upgrade.

Superzap-
Great 2.5.2 upgrade -and it was working perfectly until I encountered an error in trying to utilize the edit function in TivoWeb. After a reboot, neither TivoWeb nor Nophone function and when I attempt to input the correct call waiting numbers for those programs, a message stating "terminated: two or more programs running" appears. I've tried a couple of subsequent reboots but same result. Not all the hacks have disappeared as Tivonet and ftp still work but I'm not sure whether I need to reinstall or if there is an easier workaround? Thanks.

Have you tried the commands more that once and always get that message? That should only happen if you're entering commands rapidly. Take a look at /var/hack/xPlusz/xPlusz.log for errors. And do a
ps x
command to see if xPlusz.tcl is active.

I've tried the nophone and TivoWeb commands several times and the terminating language arises each time. The xPlusz logs don't list any errors but they don't list any activity in the last two reboots either. The ps x command lists the following
174 ? SW 0:01 tivosh /hack/bin/xPlusz/xPlusz.tcl
178 ? R 0:00 tivosh /hack/bin/xPlusz/xPluszDvr.tcl

After you load v25xtreme on your hard drive are you putting it into the dtivo and letting it boot at least 1 time? You have to do this before attempting the xupgrade.
FYI: v25xtreme is really v2.0 pending restart to install v2.5. You have to let it boot once to get the v2.5 tivo os to install. Then you can install the xupgrade.

You need to double check your jumper setting on your drive.
If it is set to cable select try setting it to master.
If it is set to master try using cable select.
You might have to experiment with the jumper settings.

When I was running a HU card I paid $250 for a lifetime sub for TiVo. DirecTV did send me a P4 card, and I have been using it for about 2 months maybe more. I pay monthly for Total Choice Premier w/Locals. It hasn't had a phone line plugged into it for over a year. At least one it can call out on. Does my P4 card have the tier needed for my DirecTiVo to record? From my understanding it should since I paid for the lifetime sub, and I pay monthly for Total Choice Premier and this package includes it without paying extra. So I know I "should" have it. I don't want to upgrade and then not be able to record anything. I guess I could call DirecTV and they should be able to fix that. Does anyone know? Has anyone upgraded to 3.1 in a situation like mine?

I will have the same results without having to load xtreme like bash and all the hacks of xpulz 3.10 am I correct on this assumption?or do I still have to load xtreme?
superzap
01-22-2003, 11:09 AM
Yes that will work providing the brand new dtivo comes with v2.5 from the factory which the recent new ones do. I tested with a new T60 right out of the box. You don't need to load v25xtreme.
I tried #20,0 and shut off addlocs (thanks Astrogoth!). That seemed to shut down mvchannels. I loaded a copy of 900s.tcl ver 1.1 from my archives, chmod +x'ed it, but it refuses to run under 2.5.2.

Superzap,
I've read the readme several times and I'm still stumped on a few things....
How often does noppv need to run? If once a day in fine how do you specify once a day? #3 says background or recycled, which I assume you'd specify a time, but then there is #23,?N? which states "boot-up, daily, or recycled" but the options are on or off? I don't get it. Which command do you use and I would think backgroud would be preferred?
I finally figured out mvchannels but does it need to be run from time to time or does turning on addlocs take care of that?
When I ran xp "#44,1" to make the root partition readonly I received the following message "noppv bypassed, not daily call", what does it mean?
What are the #53 and #54 commands used for, I used #46 and it seemed to do the trick.
What is NOSDD?
What does FIXDEMO do? What is demo mode?
In the past I've used tytool and it's server side MFSSTREAM
program. What does #42 do, turn on MFSSTREAM to be used with Tivoweb? If so, is it wise to keep it running all the time or does it eat up processor time?
Which leads me to my last question, how do you set priorities on the hacks to low in order to keep the overhead down?
Thanks,
Dave

And will the answers to these and other related questions ever end up in the upgrade README?
superzap
01-23-2003, 11:05 AM
First of all, remember that xPlusz is a collection of hacks, most of which were not developed by me, so I'm certainly not an expert on any of them. The info is in the forums and you will need to search for it.
Here's some info from my previous post:
As stated in the readme, nothing is activated by default after the xupgrade is done. Refer to the readme for activating the functions with xPlusz commands. For example, run #43,1 for telnet, #45,1 for tivoweb, #46,1 for tivoftpd, etc. Reboot if you change these types of options that need to be started at boot-up.
Here's some of the functions explained:
NOPHONE - allows your TiVo sub to continue to remain active without a phone connection (also controls the logs).
ADDLOCS will allow you to add multiple sets of locals (mvchannels).

Now to your questions:

I don't get it. Which command do you use and I would think backgroud would be preferred?#23,1 turns on the basic NOPPV feature. It will run daily and at boot-up if that's all you do.
What happens with noppv is that the ppv resets it does are set back by the tivo software after awhile. Running it daily is usually not frequent enough.
Try running noppv recycled on a timer by entering command #3,3600
The 3600 is 1 hour in seconds.
Or run every 2 hours #3,7200 for a little less overhead.
To stop it from running on a timer, use #3,0
I finally figured out mvchannels but does it need to be run from time to time or does turning on addlocs take care of that?Again, using the #20,1 command just enables the basic ADDLOCS function and you will need to further customize for your particular locals. The #60 and #67 are mainly used for customizing locals and are explained in the README.
When I ran xp "#44,1" to make the root partition readonly I received the following message "noppv bypassed, not daily call", what does it mean?Doesn't mean much to you, it's a debugging message, a variety of which you will see when you run xPlusz commands using the xp bash command. It means to me, you have NOPPV activated and ran a xp command and it isn't the daily call or boot-up, so noppv is not going to run during that particular execution of xPlusz.
What are the #53 and #54 commands used for, I used #46 and it seemed to do the trick.
#46,1 is used to activate noscramble at boot-up.
#54,0 turns off noscramble without rebooting and #54,1 turns on noscramble without rebooting.
#53,0 or #53,1 selects the noscramble module to be loaded. Search the extraction forum to determine which is best for you ===> http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19918&perpage=15&pagenumber=3
What is NOSDD?
See the above post and search the forum.
What does FIXDEMO do? What is demo mode?
Demo mode is what merchants use to demonstrate the tivo's ui to it's customers. I believe it is activated by something on the access card and sometimes a hacker's card might cause their tivo to go into the undesirable demo mode. FIXDEMO is a temporary fix that can be used until the real problem is fixed on the access card. If you're not getting demo mode, don't use this.
In the past I've used tytool and it's server side MFSSTREAM program. What does #42 do, turn on MFSSTREAM to be used with Tivoweb? If so, is it wise to keep it running all the time or does it eat up processor time?
Yes #42,1 turns on MfsStream v.98, don't thinks it eats up a lot of resources, see this ===> http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20901
Which leads me to my last question, how do you set priorities on the hacks to low in order to keep the overhead down?
All of the long running TCL hacks that have been included in xPlusz use the "setpri fifo 1" statement to reduce the execution priorty and hopefully will cause a minimal impact on the normal tivo processes.

Your second post is the exact detail I was looking for, thanks!
BTW I love Plusz!
I couple points I need clarification on.
If you use #3, 7200 to setup NOPPV to run every 2 hours do you first have to active it with #23,1 or is that redudant?
Your explaination of the debug error makes perfect since, thanks!
Doesn't #47 and #54 do the same thing?
As for #53...#53,1 would only be used if I had programs on my DTIVO that were previously recorded scrambled? Other wise I'd just use #53,0?
You the man!
Thanks!

Doesn't #47 and #54 do the same thing? No, #47,1 causes noscramble to be loaded at boot-up, #47,0 won't load noscramble at boot-up. #54 is used to dynamically unload or reload noscramble.
As for #53...#53,1 would only be used if I had programs on my DTIVO that were previously recorded scrambled? Other wise I'd just use #53,0?#53 just gives you an option to select 1 of 2 flavors of the noscramble module. Most just use the default. This is an advanced subject of extraction and you need to study that subject before you can decide ===> http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19918

superzap is there something different between 2.5.1 and 2.5.2 that would make the locals stay at (to be announced)? i was at 2.5.1 and had no problems getting guide for locals, i changed nothing but upgraded to 2.5.2 and now cant get the guide for locals. i was using xplusz 3.1 with 2.5.1 and it should be the same with 2.5.2 ! i dont understand whats going on i hope you can give me some insight. thanks

There is a v252 directory in /var/hack that has a few gz(s) and tar(s).
Should I start over?

I suppose you should try to start over. The other thing you could have is corrupt files. Delete the files in /var/hack/x252 before restarting. You might want to consider re-downloading the file.

There could be an issue with v2.5.2 and guide data. I thought it worked the last time I tested, but with so many having problems I have to re-test. Maybe something has now changed in the guide data or other sat stream data. I know there's a problem with the v3.1.0 tivo os and getting guide data but thought v2.5.2 worked like v2.5.
If you want to use mvchannels, use either the regular procedure by executing mvchannels.tcl from bash or use xPlusz. Don't try to mix both.

You can't install v2.5.2 on top of v2.5.2, that's why you're getting that error.

I installed the upgrade and annoyed my girlfriend by staring at the Phone setup page for an hour while entering strange code and occasionally restarting. Everything seemed to run smoothly on my DSR6000....except airnet.
My assumption is that this install negated my airnet install. Is that right?
I've only seen one post on this that said things went wrong installing airnet AFTER the upgrade.
Does anyone have a quick process to get it back and running with a static IP?
Thanks for the great upgrade. Fun so far....

First of all I have a T60 with 25xtreme + kraven's original upgrade.
Well I decided to go ahead and do the upgrade to v2.5.2. I followed the directions exactly as stated in the readme I extracted the 2 files from the ISO with WinImage and did the upgrade from bash. Everything went through perfectly with no errors, but I came to the problem many others have spoke of; the tivo just hangs while it attempts to acquire guide info after the reboot (slowly goes from 90% to 100% and then just stays at 100% forever). After reading this whole thread and being pointed to this thread -> http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21100
I decided to go ahead and take the time to clear the Program Data and To Do list from the system reset menu (after trying to go through the guided setup again and hanging). This takes a VERY long time (more then an hour). After doing this the system did acquire guide info and went to live TV. I was very happy to be rid of the problem (even though I lost all season passes and need to set them all up again) and started looking into enabling options in xPlusz (I've never used this before). Well after setting everything up to start (no scramble, telent, tivoweb, etc...) I rebooted. and when it came back up it is now stuck at trying to acquire guide info again.
Well I'm at a loss here... I'm currently clearing the Program Data and To Do list AGAIN. I hope it fixes the problem, but it looks like this is just going to keep coming back and I have no idea why.
Does anyone have any Ideas? I've never user mvchannels before and I know others have talked about that being a problem. I didn't think it could have been a problem unless xPlusz started it up right away (I didn't enable it and I've never used it). I do use selectlocals. Could this be causing a problem? Some guys on IRC said it was only mvchannels that was the problem but I wasn't sure. I would hate to have to re-xtreme the drives. I have over 100 hours of great stuff on the tivo right now.
While writing this the tivo went back to live TV after clearing the Program Data and To Do list. How can I keep this from happening again? I was reading the readme and saw an option at the bottom to "uninstall - restore original files and delete xPlusz files. #99673542" What exactly dos this do? Take it back to 2.5.1 or just delete xPlusz and leave the tivo at 2.5.2?
Thanks for any information and your hard work! :)
TheDude
Is there any workaround for installing the 2.5.2 upgrade over an existing 2.5.2 (virgin) install? Or am I going to have to go restore an old 2.5 from backup? I haven't tried the "forbidden hack" so I don't think I want to go with 3.1.
Thanks,
Gill
superzap

Selectlocals and mvchannels and other scripts that add locals use the same basic technique. So the problem you have is not related specifically to mvchannels. Clear the guide data and you should be ok in the future, that worked for others.

If you're already at v2.5.2 you can just install the original KRavEN upgrade and xPlusz and other hacks that you want and bypass this upgrade. Otherwise you'll need to wipe out everything and start with v25xtreme or a v2.5 image.
Thanks for the quick reply superzap. I guess I was just looking for an easy way to install most of the necessary hacks without losing data, or having to take the drives out. Guess I could try 3.1 and see what happens. :)
Keep up the good work!

Superzap,
As you may remember I upgraded to 2.5.2 with xplusz the other night and all has been well until last night.
I had to powerdown do to a power outage, tivo is on a UPS but it was an extended outage os I shut it down.
Well this evening I couldn't telnet or ping my tivo, so I rebooted.
Telnet and tivoftpd came backup but tivoweb didn't. I retyped xp "#45,1" and it comfirmed the command was already active. I manually started it and it worked.
I tried an xp "#45,0" rebooted, then an xp "#45,1" and rebooted. NO LUCK.
The only think I did between the install and tonight was enabling MFSSTREAM via the xp "#42,1" command. I turned it off before trying the above commands.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave

Superzap,
Found the problem. Enabling #44,1 READONLY disables tivoweb, any idea why? I noticed the following error in the tvdebuglog log file which lead me to it:
Sat Jan 25 03 00:40:18 executing sdelaysz.tcl 600 tmonsz.sh 43200 noppvsz.tcl xPlusz_noppv in background

(file "/hack/bin/xPlusz/xPlusz.tcl" line 3500)
I'm also having a problem getting MFSSTREAM to work. I enabled it and tryed to download a file thru tivoweb but it creates a 0 byte file?
I also noticed the following processes running, are they part of MFSSTREAM, I didn't notice them before turning it on:

daveinfla:
I had the same problem.
I could not get mfsstream to work from tivoweb after doing the Xupgread 2.5.2. All I'd get is a 0 byte file when I clicked on the showname in the MFS Stream page.
I saw that the file /tivoweb-tcl/modules/mfsstream.cfg contained:
path=/var/hack/tivoweb-tcl
but, mfs_stream is in /tivoweb-tcl
so, changing that line to: path=/tivoweb-tcl
seemed to fix things and now I can download ty streams from the tivoweb.
I don't know if I screwed something up during my upgrade and caused this problem myself, but this change seemed to fix it.
I think I also updated files in the tivoweb-tcl/modules from mfsstreamweb98b
The files were:
mfsstream.cfg mfsstream.cfg.alt mfsstream.itcl
Hope that helps...

You found a xPlusz problem when using NOPPV and READONLY. A work-around is to not use both at the same time. A fix is to change xPlusz.tcl line 557 (procedure "noppv" line 22) at the end from:
$xPlusz::BIN_DIR/noppv.log &
to
$xPlusz::VAR_DIR/noppv.log &
I'll fix this with the next release of xPlusz.

Good work, you found the MfsStream problem.
To recap, the fix is to edit /tivoweb-tcl/modules/mfsstream.cfg and change line 8 to the path that contains mfs_stream.
or just creating the directory /var/hack/tivoweb-tcl might also fix the problem.

A little background since there are weaving threads...
I have a DSR6000/159 hours 25extremed, Kraven upgraded (before I knew of xupgrade), xupgraded to 2.5.2. I also have airnet.
Between the KRavEN update and xupgrade airnet worked allowing me FTP and telnet access.
I put in the 2.5.2 upgrade and xPlusz and everything went smoothly except that airnet stopped working, so I popped the drive and reinstalled the drivers. Now I can Ping that static IP but Telnet and FTP refuse connection (I turned them on using the remote commands before reinstalling airnet) AND now xPlusz no longer works.
I feel like if I reinstall xPlusz airnet might stop working again....
unless anyone has a better idea, I might hope that it was the 2.5.2 upgrade that killed airnet and if I reinstall ONLY the xPlusZ they might all play together so I can go and try and break it all again with tivoweb...
thoughts?

The problem is where and when the NIC drivers are loaded. Kraven's files expect the driver to be loaded way before the end of rc.sysinit, from one of his other rc files. I don't know where XPlusz needs to find them, nor where 2.5.2 update puts things.
When you reload them using the normal NIC installer, they get placed at the end of rc.sysinit, which gives you a working IP stack, but that's it.
Sorry, I don't use either of these updates, so not sure where to point you. Basically you need to see where the regular drivers are installed, make adjustments to the driver being loaded for your airnet card, and things should work again.

Superzap, mtntrx,
Fixed the RO NOPPV problem, but still can't get mfsstream to work.
Replaced path as stated, but it still doesn't work.
Please clairify mfsstreamweb98b statement. Can't seem to locate it. What version does xPlusx install?
Edited /tivoweb-tcl/modules/mfsstream.cfg
Changed:
path=/var/hack/tivoweb-tcl

path=/tivoweb-tcl
Also tried path=/tivoweb-tcl/modules because all the mfsstream files appeared to be in the modules directory.

I'm getting the same error. I haven't used MfsStream before and just followed the install instructions when I added it to xPlusz and xupgrade. My apologies for not testing it. The only thing that is different as mentioned above by mtntrx, is that the directory is not /var/hack/tivoweb-tcl as mentioned in the install instructions. It is installed in /tivoweb-tcl with v1.9.4 tivoweb. I don't think installing tivoweb in the var partition is a good idea since var can be rebuilt by the tivo os. I'll look into it as time permits and maybe someone will come up with a fix in the meantime.
EDIT UPDATE: It seems to be working now. All I did is create the /var/hack/tivoweb-tcl directory, activate MFSSTREAM (#42,1) and reboot. I didn't change mfsstream.cfg at all. Give that a try and let us know.
Like I said it seems to work, at least no "page not found". But when I click on save for the download I get 0 bytes transferred?

I can report the same problem. :( Tried to transfer a ty file and got 0 bytes.
I thought it might be the noscramble_mbm vs noscramble.o. I had mbm loaded, but since I don't have any recordings that are scrambled, I went ahead and rebooted with noscramble.o active instead of noscramble_mbm. I will make a small recording, try to transfer it and let everyone know.

Well, I can't report success :( The part recorded with noscramble.o produced the same results. 0 bytes transferred.
I also tried to activate TyTool5, but I am guessing there are some compatibility issues with TyTool and 3.1.
That's my 2 cents worth.

I was able to fix the mfsstream problem with the following steps (some may not be necessary, but it worked for me)
1. Download MfsStreamWeb98b (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=77818)
2. Copy mfs_stream and tyhttpd to /tivoweb-tcl (overwriting if/when prompted); then chmod 755 tyhttpd mfs_stream
3. Copy the contents of the modules folder to /tivoweb-tcl/modules (overwriting if/when prompted)
4. Edit the file /tivoweb-tcl/modules/mfsstream.cfg to have the path point to /tivoweb-tcl
5. Reboot and download ty streams.
superzap
01-26-2003, 04:53 PM
Step 5 does nothing, echo doesn't start anything. If you edit rc.sysinit as supplied with xupgrade be very careful as you could lose bash.
It is working for me now. I think the problem is that mfs_stream needs to be in /tivoweb-tcl and not in /tivoweb-tcl/modules. The readme isn't clear on that. If you're having the problem try copying mfs_stream from /tivoweb-tcl/modules to /tivoweb-tcl.

Try changing the
/sbin/ifconfig net0 192.168.1.105 up
to
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.105 up

ifconfig

UP BROADCAST LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3584 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 coll:0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:20:18:B0:F6:76
inet addr:192.168.0.105 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:8 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 coll:0

Not sure since I don't use a static ip. You might want to start a new thread and maybe someone like BubbleLamp could help.

after upgrading to xtreme 3.1 i did a (touch /etc/SubTest) and then made a daily call which said it succeded but when i check system information it shows account in good standing and not lifetime sub, is this normal for 3.1 ? thanks

That's normal for v3.1.0. There's no more lifetime sub. You don't need SubTest anymore. Turn on NOPHONE xPlusz option instead.

Sorry to re-post, but did anyone try to go to User Interface -> Channel Guide -> All ?
I get:

Any thoughts?

I ran the setup and all went well. I got the NOPPV working and went to setup the
NOPHONE #21,?N? activate/deactivate NOPHONE,
?N?= 0 off or 1 on.
I entered this command from the bash prompt #21,?1? pressed enter. After that I lost my bash prompt I just have a #. When it tries to make the daily call it fails no phone line.
I done CD / and then CD /var/hack, and have this on my screen
#var/hack
Next I entered the touch /ect/SubTest
Still can't dial out. How can I get my bash prompt back?
Thanks,

Turn on NOPHONE from bash like this:
xp "#21,1"
or enter
#21,1
in the call waiting prefix
You don't need SubTest, doesn't do anything with this upgrade.
After making a Daily Call, if you see Failed at the last call status from the Phone Connection screen, just go back one menu and forward again to the Phone Connection menu and you should see it changed to Succeeded. What's important is that you see Lifetime Service (for v2.5.2) or Account in Good Standing (for v3.1.0) in Account Status on the System Info screen and you can record.
