Difference between Sony and Philips?

I guess I'm behind but what is the difference between 2 tivo OSes?
Is it just remote control codes or something else?
If it is (at least for dtivo) can you just swap em?

Having owned both a phillips and a sony I know of a few differences.

The sony remote control has a number of different buttons
(such as list) which obviously jumps around the interface a bit differently.

The "save to vcr" feature on the sony provides direct IR control of a sony VCR

the color scheme on some of the screens is different.

it shouldn't be too much trouble to get it to work if you copy over the IR codes from a phillips.
