can't check ver of software on tivo

I just got this tivo from a swapmeet, and I've been working on it for 5 days steight and I'm a new newbie, here the deal. I want to upgrade it, but I don't know what it has on it. when I plug it in it goes to the setup screen, and thats find intel it go to make the called then it stops says "failed service unavailable" it came with a network card so I try to find the IP address with Blue's Portscanner v5, but nothing at 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255. I'm really a lostman now. :confused: Please help me. fine a way to use it. question is can I load Tivo 3.0 software steight to the h.d.d. so I would know what software I have on it, with my PC ?

Goto Messages and Setup, and check System information. That will tell you what version of software is loaded on the tivo. If it's 2.5, pull the drive, and look at the /etc/rc.sysinit file. It should tell you what ip address the tivo is setup on. If all else fails, goto ftp.abs.net, and pull a 3.0 version.

I see the ver now its' 1.2.0 old. its a Philips HDR212 I just upgraded the drive, I probably should have waited to upgrade to 3.0 before a put the new drive in. its been three days and no upgrade from Tivo :( . Thanks for all your help.

If you don't want to wait, search on this forum for "abs.net" (the exact url I can't recall at the moment) It is an ftp server that hosts hard drive images for tivos. It just might have a 3.0 image for your Philips hdr212.

Thanks for all your help, just got the update from Tivo now I need to download the software 2.5xtreme I think (help) make it a img and load it to my hard drive "right"
