View Full Version : Stuck At Dish Guided Setup

I was re-doing the Dish Guided Setup to add Sat 2. I had just finished a 3.1 upgrade from a virgin 25Xtreme install on a t60.

After the Transponder Check, it went to a PLEASE WAIT... screen and stayed. And stayed. And stayed.

Several reboots took me from SZ's Boot Up Screen (Database Regulars Present) right immediatly into the Dish Guided Setup Screen.

I searched thru the forum here and tried all sort of suggestions.

Do the mvchannels delete, dumpall, reload and run. No luck

Darkwing's suggestion about disconnecting the cables to the dish. Nope.

I even went thru the processes and killed them one by one. Still no luck. (Although I saw some really kewl results. )

I really really don't want to have to whack the drive and start over.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You mentioned reload, but did you do a mvchannels reset?

Failing that try a Guidedata/todo list reset.

Yes, I went thru the gambit. It's my understanding that there are some issues with mvchannels and 3.1.0. Could this be a symptom?

By Guidedata/todo list reset, do you mean on screen or thru the BASH?

On screen, in the tivo menus.

Can't get there from here. Upon boot-up it immediatly goes into the dish set-up and I can't go anywhere else.

To eliminate xPlusz as the source of the problem (which I don't believe it is) I have renamed the rc.remote-login script and rebooted the unit.
As I suspected. Even with xPlusz completely off, not loaded up at all, the same problem still occurs.

I stand corrected, DW. It seems I was following someone else's list, not yours. (re: mvchannels.tcl reset)

I found your post and did your list, step by step. Did the dumpall.
When I tried the reset, this is what happened:

/var/hack# ./mvchannels.tcl reset
TmkLogger: <134>Jan 26 13:56:37 tcl[196]: Tcl created pool of 1458176 bytes
Delaying reset minutes.
syntax error in expression "(reset * 60000)"
while executing
"expr ($min * 60000)"
(file "./mvchannels.tcl" line 309)
/var/hack#

Looks like it's a typo somewhere in that part of line 309 of the mvchannels.tcl, but I can't spot it. Unless there are too many zeros in 60000.

Re upload mvchannels.tcl and main.dat from version 1.36 and try again.

Actually, I had the same thing happen and posted my experience in another thread. Rather than look for that, here's what I did (thanks to a suggestion by none other than DW):

- Unplug the DTiVo
- Unhook both LNB feeds so that no data can get to the IRD from the Dish
- Run through the guided setup
- Wait for it to timeout when it fails acquiring data
- Choose to continue when prompted

Now you can at least get out of the guided setup. However, although I tried everything I read about and everything I could think of, I wasn't able to fix this problem without clearing program data and to do list. But, clearing that stuff and re-connecting the LNB cables allowed me to get passed the acquisition properly and retain my recorded shows.

Goos Luck!

Is there a solution for this problem? I have xtremed my t60 three times because when I do the 31 upgrade (xupgrade) and try to redo the guided setup, my receiver gets stuck at "Please Wait" after the "Signal Strength" screen.

The T60 had 3.1 on there from TIVO before I got another drive and xtremed it. Could that be the problem? I am going from a virgin xtremed drive to xupgrade 3.1. The last attempt I even did the delete everything before doing the setup and still got stuck.

Please help...

I am not sure if this will work for you. But I moved all instances of mvchannels (including the "locals" and "900s" directories) into a temp directory and rebooted. That fixed mine when I had the same problem.

Has anyone found a solution for this problem?

It definitely related to the 31xupgrade, since going through and making changes through guided setup works fine for me with 25xtreme.

After upgrading to 3.1 with the xupgrade I am unable to go through satellite guided setup to change to 1 tuner or 2 tuner without getting stuck "Please Wait" after the transponder check.

Reboots throw you right back into the guided setup screen where if you follow the prompts again, you get stuck in the same spot.

This is a stock 25xtreme then 31xupgrade machine without any mvchannels or fooling around with locals at all.

Does anyone know how to get back to a functioning Tivo?

I just switched to Kraven's Tivolater version and this seemed to resolve my problem.
