As I posted two weeks ago, I modded a friends DTiVo that had already taken the 3.1 upgrade. The NIC driver, FTP, telnet, extraction via tserver were all working fine at that point. Then only mods lacking on his DTiVo were fixsub and logsnull.

Today, I went to install the missing mods on his unit. I started with the 3.1 cron daemon. I followed instructions to the letter and installed cron. I had not yet installed the fixsub or logsnull mods. When I rebooted his unit, it displayed the "Welcome. Powering up" prompt and will not get past that.

I pulled his drive and mounted the partition on my PC. Looking around, I can't see anything out of the ordinary. I even renamed the "rc.remote-login" file (I think that is the correct name), so that cron wouldn't be loaded on boot up. This didn't help.

Any suggestions on what screwed up and how to fix it? My friend and his family are suffering TiVo withdrawals.

Thanks.

Did you install cron manually or via xplus?
You can either manually remove the cron from where it starts, not sure where xplus puts it, and if you did it manually then you know where.

Alternately, you can rename the cron executable, again, not sure exacly where the new 3.1 upgrades put things. Try /hack/cron or /cron

I installed the seperate module for cron that I downloaded from the web site. I have already renamed the cron binary. Still no good.

I don't know why I didn't notice this sooner. It seems that when I ran the install script for cron and rebooted, somehow the permissions got changed on rc.sysinit and rc.remote-login. I know I did nothing to change the permissions. I added the execute permission back and it boots up just fine.
