I am looking to upgrade my video card. What I am looking for is the best card for gaming (FPSs mostly) that will also do great for video editing.
The machine it will be going into is a P-4 2.5ghz w/ 1gig of RAM.
If you were getting a video card to fit the above parameters and cost was no object, what would you get?

I'm not sure exactly what you want? Do you want a vid card with good gaming and video capture? If so the All in Wonder Radeon (whatever is the highest model out) should be able to provide both. It has a decent graphics processor and is a tuner/capture card, with nice dvd playback capilities too (comes with remote for pc.)
But if you are just going to be editing already captured video (ie. from a tivo) and transcoding it, what video card you have (so long as it is not old and out of date) should make little difference in performance in that area. Then you are back to gaming needs only in which case I would recommend the GeForce4 ti4600 128mb card. (hey you said money was no object.) :)

Yes. Tivo editing and burning to DVD is my primary goal as far as the Video side of things. I don't intend to render my own videos or anything like that. So I guess gaming is the only criteria. GeForce4, eh? Is there any downside to it?

The pricetag is the only drawback for me. :)
Best bang for the buck is going to be a 64meg version of the GeForce4 ti4200 (INHO.)

How would you say the GeForce 4 TI4200 compares to the ATI
RADEON 9700 PRO.
I was not too impressed with ATI several years ago, but have heard they have cleaned up quite a bit and are now top of the line in video cards.

For gaming, the 9700 Pro beats the geforce4 slightly.
Yes, ATI used to have aweful drivers, but since about 2 years ago, they are some of the best.
