Ok I load 25xtreme and run dtivomad and it tells me success enjoy, so i power down and then i try to open bash through tivo nothing, so then i try to to load xplusz through pc and it tells me xtreme not found on partition hdb4 i am using WIN98 HDA 120gb samsung 5400 on hdb cd-rom hdc and quantum15gb(second drive already installed in tivo) on hdd any ideas on why xplusz is not recognizing xtreme or why bash is not enabled or why xtreme says its being loaded and its not? i AM USING AN AMD750 with 512ram thanks

When booting the 25Xtreme disc, you cannot use the Primary Master (hda) position because (from what I understand) it is not byte swapped. This allows you to save off images to hda if you ever needed to.
Instead try this:

120 gig = hdb = Primary Slave
cd rom = hdc = Secondary Master
15 gig = hdd = Secondary Slave

This set up is gospel. DO NOT DEVIATE FROM IT!

Windows drive = hda = primary master
Tivo B drive = hdb = primary slave
Tivo A drive = hdc = secondary master
CD-ROM = hdd = secondary slave

Your Tivo drives need to have the jumper settings the same as they would be in the Tivo. Since you cannot configure a Tivo drive in your PC as the primary master it must be set on the secondary IDE bus. If you tried setting up both Tivo drives as slaves it will not work because the 2.5Xtreme program can't find a Tivo A drive to load the software on.

You know, I guess I have just always followed that inadvertantly.

In all my computers:
My windows drive is obviously always hda and my cdrom is always hdd. I have a removable drive bay as hdc (obviously where my tivo A drive would go without ripping apart the computer) and I've never had a second tivo drive to worry about putting in as hdb.

Not for nuthin' Cap, but that's a load of crap. Other than hda being reserved for DOS partitions, you can use any combination for the rest of the drives. The problem is, most people don't know how to jumper their drives correctly for the positions they place them, don't know what CS does, don't know PRIMARY from SLAVE, don't know which drive is which even though the letter assignments have been posted here numerous times, and don't bother to learn.

Sorry, just had to vent a little, I'm better now.

No problem BL. We've all got to do that from time to time. Yes, I know you can set it up differently, especially if you're not using a FAT16/FAT32 drive for backups or restorations. It's just that all of the instructions (i.e. Hinsdale's and others) are all set up this way and there are those individuals that don't have enough common sense to realize the difference.

Ohhh snap!!! :) Don't feel bad about letting it out every now and then.

Captain has a point. It is easier to specify a setup for troubleshooting....it elliminates variables that could be mucking things up.

Bobby,
there is no need to even format the drive before applying Xtreme.

It sounds like you made it through the Xtreme install, but the prospective Tivo B drive was not recognized? Are you sure it was detected by the bios on boot before you installed Xtreme??(perhaps an ide / power cable was loose???)

EDIT: Ooops, nevermind

bobby284

ok so I canned the prospective b drive and installed the extreme to just hdb 120gb samsung
hda = 15gb win98 set at master
hdb = 120gb set slave
hdc = cdrom set master
hdd = empty

then i tried IDE1 set for cable select on both drives
then I tried no hda hdb 120gb set at CS then as ms then slave

same problem every time it says I have installed extreme but when i look for bash or try to run xplusz in pc it says =
assuming 25xtreme is on partition hdb4
it trys to mount hdb4 hdb9 and says xtreme not found
so i tried the upgrade to 252 disk from pitou and it tells me same thing xtreme not found.

OK, now you've lost me. What exactly is it that you're trying to do? Once you've loaded Xtreme on the drive, reconfigure the jumpers and let it boot up in your DTivo and flash the EEPROM. Take this one step at a time. Make sure you've got a working Xtreme image before trying to load up anything else on the drive. Get yourself a serial cable and access the drive via serial port instead of doing it in your PC. Install XPlusZ via serial and then test it.

thats where i run into problems i hook it up through serial and i dont get a bash prompt, when the drive is i the tivo hooked up to the tv i go through the entire setup i can watch tv for about 1 minute then it reboots. when it boots up again i look in the account standing and it says tivo account never setup i try to make a call and it says no dial tone because the phone line is not hooked up, This version of xtreme i downloaded from an ftp here burned on five different disks with nero and different speed settings. none over 24x

You forgot the 'touch' command. You need to do that in order to have acct status change to 5.

see again thats the problem I dont think xtreme is loading, i cant get bash or when i have the hd connected to a pc it doesnt find xtreme. I am going to try downloading from a different site and using a different program than nero to burn it and see what happens

You have to put the drive(s) in the Tivo after Xtreme and let it boot, then reboot, then completely finish setup. Only then should you pull the drives to do anything else.

Bobby did you ever get this figured out?

bobby284,

Your previous posts says you've installed 2.5Xtreme twice before. Probably a stupid question but did you try using the same CD to boot from for this installation? If the CD booted fine for a previous install then there's no reason why it shouldn't work this time around. Make sure you've got the drives configured properly (i.e. set the jumpers correctly) and make sure you can boot from the CD before you begin. Make sure your BIOS recognizes all of the drives.

Be patient with any upgrades. Make sure the basic configuration is working before you add anything else. Take it one step at a time and make sure everything's stable before you install anything else. Perform regular backups of the drive so you'll have a working configuration to reinstall if an upgrade doesn't work properly. This will prevent you from having to reinstall everything from scratch each time.
