I made my serial cable but have been unable to get the 'bash' prompt to enable the lifetime script. I have read the pertaining posts here but they havent helped so far. Can someone plz give me a step by step on getting the bash prompt and what prog works best to get it - Hyperterminal or teraterm ??
Thanks Much !!

I have a db9 female to RJ11 cable that I received with something I bought a while back and never used - will this work by plugging the RJ11 into the Tivo unit for a bash prompt ??
Thanks again !!:)

The serial port is a mini stereo connector on the Tivo, not an RJ11.

I just upgraded to the 2.5.2 upgrade using the xupgrade.iso
After installation reinstall into your TIVO, power up and follow the info in the readme file. No Cable required, all commands are done through the remote.
Worked well for me other then I could not get back out to live tv so I powered the unit down and restarted, all came up and with a lifetime sub.

I just upgraded from 2.5 to 2.5.2 and can't for the life of me get the lifetime sub. Should this I have applied it in 2.5 through the bash or should the upgrade automatically do it? I can't find in the read me a remote command for it. Thanks for any info.
mojo, have you done the "touch" step via bash yet?
If not search around for "touch" and you will find the step you are missing.

If you download the xupgrade.zip from tivostuff.com and burn the iso to disk this will upgrade either 2.5 or 3.1 with the tools and hacks and then you can use the remote control to enable what ever hacks you want to run. Read the readme file it will have all the instructions that you need to get it going. With this software you don't need to worry about the bash prompt.

I thought that it should be able to be run from the remote but I don't see that command in the Read Me. It must be something cryptic that isn't as obvious as NoSub or something like that. I'm trying but would love any hints. My bash doesn't seem to work anymore or I would use that.

The command I THINK is #21, which I have gotton to work, but right now I cant get it. Once youre done entering commands do you have to reboot? I think it says not to accept test options, if so how do you get out of there and back to the menu?

Thanks punkerg1, that was it. You don't have to hit accept and test just use that left arrow to get out of that menu. Finally.
