I just purchased from E-Bay a Tivo T60. It has a lifetime sub to tivo. I powered it up and a green screen came on stating a serious problem and to plug in the receiver in for 24 hours and it will attempt to fix it self.
First I am in canada can i plug in the tivo to update, is there another way to fix this error.
Thanks

Just leave the DTivo plugged in. The green screen of death or GSOD is only an indication of a problem the Tivo found in the filesystem. It will attempt to correct itself within 15 minutes to 24 hours. It should clear out all by itself so don't panic.
As for the lifetime Tivo sub, DirecTV has taken over the tivo service for DirecTivos and is no longer honoring lifetime subs. This is a widely used scam on ebay to try and get more for the DTivo than it's really worth. However, if you paid around $300 for the unit you paid the going rate. Chances are that the seller ionstalled 2.5Xtreme and used the "touch" function to fool the Tivo into thinking it had lifetime service. It doesn't cost anything to do this but a true lifetime sub would have cost $249.00.

Thanks !!!!!
Appreciate the help.
Just to clear up any confustion (incase there is any, and I sense there is...) It means to leave the unit plugged in for power. There is no need to plug in the phone line.
I don't think you would be able to call Tivo or DirecTV from a Canadian number....I don't know if you would just be denied or logged and reported to an agency that cares....

At this point, DirectTv is 'honoring' lifetime Tivo for those who had them before the takeover.
They're just not allowing any new ones.
