View Full Version : Problems using xplusz commands

I have installed 2.5.2 and it seems to be working ok except I cannot seem to use the commands in xplusz. I think I am doing it wrong. For example when the instructions say "for caller ID 30# n?n" what does the n?n mean? I figured out that the # symbol can be replicated using the enter key but what am I not typing for the other thing? I just get "invalid #30" on everthing I try.
I need a less vague readme, where can I go.

if you go into the 'call waiting' option of the phone setup, you'll see that an image of the remote control appears. That tells you that what key the # sign is. This differs depending on the remote (ie, Hughes/Philips vs Sony). The "," is the pause key.
So, for the nophone option, enter #21,1 (0 turns the option off, 1 turns it on [?N? refers to the arguements, in this case, the 0 or 1])
Even without actually running a test call, a few seconds later, you will see "Executing xPlusz" followed by "Succeeded". I have found that reseting the TiVo after this can change the call success status, if it doesn't appear to have changed.
Good luck,
Nitrous

Thanks, it was late at night and it made more sense today, I got it finally.
P.S. if you have nophone turned on can I hook up a phone line without fear of TiVo dialing home?

My Tivo hangs at the preparing item when it makes the test call. The pinwheel sits there and spins ... but nothign happens. Everything works great on the serial connection using the xp command. Caller ID still does not work though.

....try to turn on and off the caller id option with #30,1 AND #30,0 and it should work eventually. mine did not work at first and I just keep trying to make it woirk and finally it did and has not failed since. Also don`t forget to make a phone cable with about a 5k ohm resistor in line, so that your unit can never call out no matter what just to be safe.

Do you have diagrams for that cable ?

just cut either the red or green wire and splice in a a 5k resistor to weaken the strength so the modem cannot dial out.
easy as 3.14

Maybe you will know:
If I have the NOPHONE option turned on, will i still need to make that cable? Also, will the caller id work with the NOPHONE option turned on?
Thanks,
Chad

Caller id works with nophone on and nophone should stop it from calling out but I would`nt take the chance especially if you are using someones good bin #.

Well ... here is the deal. The card that i am using in the Tivo is a P4, I pay for it every month and will continue to pay for it. Although I have a friend with an "special" card that visits me every so often and gets put into the Tivo box. Is it an issue to have that card in the Tivo for a couple of hours (does it record every card bin# that has been placed into it)? My P4 is normally always in the tivo.

...not only that but before making my cable correctly I was experimenting with test call, and I think I uploaded $70 in PPV.... I guess I fu#@ed myself.
And my TiVo is not subbed, just the card.
