In another thread someone posted to do a search for "using hu p3 cards with 3.1" I tryed that but this search engine says that the words don't have enough letters so that ain't getting me anywhere.

Is there any scripts mods etc that will get the reciever to work on a P3 card with 3.1 or tivolater3.1. Need a linux guru to help us poor saps out.

Like I said I've been reading for days and can't find myself the answer anyone help me out or have a good idea about a website I can try to look

script: no
mod: yes, but it isnt publically available. there are hints that have been dropped, which provide plenty of info on where to look and what to do, but thats it.

need a linux guru? not really, more like someone who understands assembly

Ok....

I got the hint and read the last thread you said that in the "5399999" one...

Not sure if I was just insulted or not, but I foolishly give people the benefit of the doubt, so I just convince myself I wasn't...

(Although I'd like to think of my self as a TVer that wants to be more of a Tivoer with alittle help)

There is huge learning curve in this that allot of you people seem to have forgotten... I've been reading threads for about two weeks for about 2-3hours a night and this is all very hard to get at first... two weeks in and this is still "at first to me" I'm way lost..

I haven’t gotten my Hdvr2 yet it’s in the mail, and to be honest I'm scared as hell to tinker with it because I really don't understand... OK so what I'm saying here is where should I go cause your idea of newbie and mine is totally askew and sooner or later (maybe already) I’m going to piss someone off for asking what you consider a stupid question...

I done a few 10-20+ different search's to find a dsshacking site that talks about tivos but there very much into there own thing, finding a crossover site is alittle difficult, but I’m sure I'll find one sooner or later and I understand why talking about it in hear would be forbidden Dave's hand reaches far and lands hard, DTV has seized allot of websites lately, in the end I was just looking to get some confirmation that its doable, you guys seem to think is possible which bodes well, I'll keep up my search.

If anyone is sympathetic to this ideology than drop me a line with a site that’s more along my lines thanks, if not thanks anyway I'll be coming back to read some more from time to time when I learn alittle more and am able to understand what you guys are really doing.

to give you some idea of my level I have heard of a assembler/disassembler program and have a vague Idea about what is used for, if i were to download one all I'd know about useing one would be how to open and close it.

sad but true....:(

i think that most people here remember what the learning curve was like...i certainly do. shoot, im still on my way up. however, everyone who is worth their salt has done lots of reading, tried some stuff on their unit, read some more, then come back to the forum with their results/ideas/questions/etc. this isnt an insult, but a suggestion on how you can work with that learning curve.

As with anything else, its all about where your priorities are. if you want an instant "here it is" style solution (im not judging, just using direct language for clarity), then im sure with enough money there will be someone willing to do it. however, thats not the spirit of this community. hacking tivos is as much about the challenge and exploration as it is about getting the unit to do crazy stuff. if you dont have the time to devote to learning the necessary skills, then this probably isnt your hobby.

well, if your goal is the camid hack, and you truely want to learn about how to do it, then here are a few suggestions:
understand what the box is made of, specifically what processor it uses and such.
understand assembly for that processor. you dont have to be an assembly god to do the hack, but a basic understanding will carry you very far.
look at the startup scripts for the tivo (they are in /etc/rc.d/). they will tell you lots about how the unit starts up, what needts to be running, etc.

yup. we exist fine here without dave trying to smack us down all the time. i would like to keep it that way. what hack do you need confirmation on whether it is doable? the camid hack? yeah, its doable

not so sad, we all start somewhere. a good place to start would be learning what assembly is, and what an assembler/disassembler could do for you

yup your right and that post helped clear up alot of things thanks alot, my machine hasen't come yet so it is alittle hard to understand these things without typing on a machine but after getting a good night sleep I think Im figureing things out....

I need to go back and read somemore about the HDVR2 hack cuse I don't understand about the way they used the scripts to not use the phone line and get the machines not to upgrade... seems that the bash prompts have messed them up more then... well from what there saying there really unusable, or at least thats what I got from it, but like I said I'm going to read again

do you have 3.1 or 3.2 on yours?

currently i have 3.1.U5 on mine, but that is because i was running the bash_env hack. once i can find my info for grabbing the 3.2 slices, i will dl and install that. of course, i have a hacked prom, so i can get in via other methods than the BASH_ENV hole. for those without a hacked prom, 3.1.u5 is your only option for the HDVR2

not sure what version I'm going to get with my hdvr2, where did you get your U5 version of 3.1, from a friend or another forum, I'd like to get that so I can be able to get some of this moving when my set comes

does new out of the box HDVR2 come with 3.1.U5-01-2-151?

what assembler/disassembler do you use for your hacks MRBlack51?

IDA Pro is probably the best and most well known disassembler out there. there are hundreds of ways to do assembly stuff, but doing it by hand is probably easiest.

some ST20 guru named bubbaj posted some information . . .

now, plug a few relevant terms into the 'search' button, and that should get you started... :D
