What is the difference between choosing locals via 3m scripts in Extreme HU vs programming the tivo hard drive with something like mvchannels.tcl?

I am using a Sat T60 with Turbonet

mvchannels does nothing to get the channels, it just lets you move them around in the guide. The card (and spot beam) are responsible for which local(s) you get.

Strange though cause now I am not getting any locals boohoo

When you say it helps you move them around in the guide, you mean only those in the higher numbers correct?

I ONLY need dallas locals in pre-100. So I dont even need mvchannels. Is this correct?

I had this happen about 2 weeks ago.........All locals dissappeared
I am being told that if I upgrade from extreme 2.5 to 2.5.2 this will correct my problem.

So the MV in mvchannels could represent "move"?

Yes, just like it means move in *nix.

I'm confused again. There are two areas. 900 locals which I don't care about, and pre100 locals. I don't get either and the 3m hex has been verified to support locals. What to do?

900's and sub-100's are really the same thing, 900's are in 4th Gen IRD's, sub-100's in 5th Gen IRD.

We don't discuss 3m's here.

I understand that. I was discussing how the mv channels was supposed to work. Please re-read my last reply.

mvchannels does just that, it lets you move a channel that normally would appear at say 45, to 66, or 922, or whatever. It must be run repeatedly, either via cron or looping, or the channels 'fall back' to their original slots. This becomes an issue when you try to get more than one set of locals, and they both contend for the same slot number.

Bottom line, if you only want to get one set of locals, in their original sub-100 slots, then you don't need mvchannels.

Thank you for the explaination. So even with a Sony T60 DirecTivo, the card should do the trick for Dallas locals in sub-100 channels. Is this correct? How long is the longest time I should have to wait? Currently it has been almost 48 hours and still no locals. I have verified that my current 3m can recieve channels with others. I get a message "channel not available".

Assuming you are under the Dallas spot beam, it's normally within 24hrs for them to come in, though the guide data may take longer. However, even if your card gets locals on a 4th gen IRD, it may not get them on a 5th gen. There are differences that are beyond the realm of this board.

Here's one...I get Chicago locals on both 4th gen and 5th gen, but on my T60 I get Atlanta locals only. Running X2.5, although I just installed 2.5 last night. Any thoughts??
