Hello All,

I have been reading all weekend and am at a complete loss. First my story. I am in the NY City area. I have a phillips 6000 and use legit HU subs and 3m's. I purchased the unit off e-bay and the person who sold it to me put in my extra hard drive (no fee) and used extreme 2.5 as the software. At the time i figured what the hell, he knows how so I'll just let him do it. Well lesson learned, a year later, My locals are gone. I have read so many threads I do not know if updating to 2.5.1 would fix this problem? I do not have a P4 card so I do not want to use 3.1. If it would, can I update the program with just a BASH program or do I need to start from scrach? I read but can not figure out how to BASH into the tivo. I know I need the cable hooked to computer and tivo but I do it as the tivo is turning on? I need a simple *****s (or complete moron) guide! I am so far behind every person in this site. Any help would be appreicated.

Thanks

Its not that hard. but as long as you have to work on it you might as well stick 3.1 (dont worry about the card. Do a search on boot299.btl You dont need to download anything:) )on it and enjoy the faster menu system. To get bash on 2.5 just make the cable and plug it into your pc and your tivo. Start teraterm and it will automaticly ask you where you want to connect just tell it on com 1. Then reboot your tivo and you have it. To get bash in 3.1 you have to turn up the connection speed than try to connect. hope it helps

I would recommend that you continue reading. Start by looking at the DirecTivo Hacking FAQ and all of the How Tos and other sticky threads posted at the top of this forum. If you had looked there you would have found links to numerous other sites, as well as a Newbies Guide to Tivo Hacking. I read for over four months before I began hacking my first DTivo and it was time well spent (and I didn't have the FAQ or even a fraction of the knowledge currently available in this forum). Above all, be patient and take the time to read and learn. There's a lot of info here but it will take a while to sort through it and absorb it.
