Golly gee whiz! It won't play +R/+RW discs. Jeepers, am I glad I bought a -R/-RW drive!

Exactly why I waited for the DRU-500A.

That was the first thing that I noticed. Then the price tag, yikes.

Anybody got a bead on what the media is going to cost?

The media was quoted at $30 a disk and the recorder at $3800.

Of course there was a time when 1x CD-R drives were $1500 and the media was $20. Like all things as more people start using it the price will come down.

Give it a year or two and the media and drive prices should come down out of the stratosphere. I remember when I bought my first CD burner about 5 or 6 years ago (a Sony 924S SCSI drive with caddy-load mechanism that cost me about $529 on ebay). Blank CD-Rs were anywhere from about $12-18 apiece and the drives and software were much more prone to burning coasters, even at 1X speed (I think the Sony could burn at a blazing 2X rate). It was cheaper to buy audio CDs than to try and copy them. A 4X DVD burner (Pioneer A05) is already selling for less than half of what I paid for my 1X drive (an A03 @ about $479) about 18 months ago.
