I'm looking to put a 30 min show (22 w/o com.) on CD. The obvious approach is to create SVCD's. But I'd like to use the entire 700 MB on just one show.

At the highest legal SVCD bit rate 44 min won't fit, so I'm going to use just one CD per show anyway.

A 22 min show on one CD calls for a bit rate in the mid 4000's, too high for my DVD player which gets bogged down playing SVCD's if the Bit rate strays much above the spec.

Can DVD info be burned on a CD so that my player will read and play the CD as though it actually were a DVD? (Albiet a very small one.)

very few dvd players support it, but what you're talking about is a "mini-dvd". check out www.vcdhelp.com for more info.
