after issues with all the self-install disc..

so I figured out how to use mfstools to burn images and I've been getting it to appear like its working.

I've been taking the HD out and taking off the jumpers so the unit is in slave, and attaching it to the slave port on my primary cable on my computer.

I've been loading any number of boot disk trying to get the image to burn right.

One series seems to have a problem finishing the copy and stalls out at 93%, that was the original xtreme2.5 cd..

i maged to get the 2.52 shell extension going on the 2.52 CD, but it says it needs a filetype and it cuts out and wont install.

I've been burning a 2.52 philips/hughes image to the hard drive using v1 and v2 of mfstools cd's.

It says it copies correctly, but the unit simply hangs on the Welcome. Powering up... screen. I hooked the hard drive up back as a master when i put it back into the unit.

I've drive every variable on my end to get it up and running with one of these images and it wont seem to kick over.
oh well.. any help you can provide?

Right now I have the Superzap 2.52 image copied to the oem hard drive, and it halts on the Welcome screen...

my goal is use the unit with tivo not calling tivo and getting guide from the directv.

Are you trying the d6k252x1.mfs image? I believe that image needs the prom to be flashed before it will boot.

ok, the v25 image wont copy over to the hard drive

at 93% it says there are decompressions errors and the application quits.

how do I flash the prom manually or via a disk or something?

You need working tivo os to flash the prom. Easiest is to install v25xtreme. What HD are you having a problem with? There's some info here about altenate method of flashing the prom ===> http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21082

I tried 3 differents builds of the V25xtreme software and I keep getting decompression errors..

I know the hardware can burn the images becuase I can burn a 2.52 image good.. if I can find another mean to upgrading the prom i could just use the 2.52 cd correct?

I'm going to try and get a working version of 2.5 going if I can get arround the 93% decompression error thing.

ok I got it up and running now I need to know what else I need to do...

id like to get the locals in the 0-100 channels if possible and I'd like to have tivo get its guide off directv and not use the phone likes..

should I have a problem finding any of this?

All dtivos are equivalent to Plus DirecTV receivers and get the locals in the 2-99 channels range. The guide data comes through the satellite datastream so no phone line is needed for that.

Several ways to handle the phone calls-
Search the forum for SubTest and fixsub
or
Install xPlusz and activate NOPHONE option

i dont have my serial cable yet but i did order one..

im going to installed xplusz from floppy to the drive now..

how do i set the subscription without a bash prompt or will the no call do it automatically?

ill have to read through xplus's directions..

i was having an install issue from off the cd, to get things done more efficiently, im just going to do the 2.52 install since it has xplusz 3.10 on there already.

but i got an error that said that the

/hack/bin/xplusz..ini cannon chown to uid 1003 from gid 13 or something

it basically said the ini had issues and than it went into the operation aborted, cleaning up and back to a command prompt.l

Superzap's 2.5.2 installation is an upgrade to 2.5Xtreme. You must have Xtreme installed before adding the 2.5.2 upgrade.

I'm past that part..

originally I had issues working to fast and using the 2.5.2 on the untouched prom,

now i got 2.5 running finally and im just trying to configure the hacks.. it would appear i need to read more carefully..
