I feel like a frustrated old woman.......
Tried to upgrade to 252, it didnt work
I redid 252xtreme, all went as usual till I put the drive back in the dtivo.
All I can get now is welcome powering up and then it reboots after about 3 minutes. over and over and over
I suspect the prom is not what it should be but after reading (smudges here is blood from my eyes) and trying several different fixes reflashes still only welcome powering up.
Is there a way to go to square one and start all over (flash the prom and use 25xtreme to at least get the machine to finish booting?)
It been one of those days (and nights)
Thanks
I did make a backup then promptly screwed it up........

Just start over again with the 2.5Xtreme boot CD. No need to erase anything from the drive. If you are at all hesitant about using a drive that already has stuff written on it the perform a low-level format to completely wipe the drive prior to starting over.

I have done that (start with 25xtreme) and it still reboots.
I acts like its not getting the prom reset and keeps trying

Is this problem occurring immediately after installing 25xtreme or after installing the 252 upgrade?
I have run into problems getting the 252 upgrade to work, among those problems was that when I booted from the xupgrade CD with my Tivo drive connected to the PC, my tivo would not boot (this is without writing anything to the tivo drive - that is another problem altogether).
Anyways, I put the tivo drive back in the PC and booted from the 25xtreme CD, then rebooted the pc and put the tivo drive back in the tivo and it worked fine. So for some reason, booting from the xupgrade cd is changing something on the drive so that it will not boot.
I am not sure if this might be causing your problem, but worth looking into. The only other cause I have seen for this is if /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit scipt does not have the correct permissions.

I booted from the 25xtreme cd then go through the proceedure to set up the drive from scratch (2.5) then put the drive in the dtivo. At this point it never finishes booting. welcome powering up is all i get. After about 3 minutes it shuts down and starts all over again.
If you cant get tivo to boot you cant do any more than whatever is available by doing it in the pc and thats very limited.
I came across a "kill_initrd" that may help but havent exactly figured out how to apply it.
I dont think the prom is taking the upgrade for some reason.

Sorry... Don't know what to tell you at this point. Hopefully someone else will be able to point you in the right direction.

Does this thread ring any bells?

One thing I didn't mention in this thread is that if I strapped the IBM drive to "Force Dev 1 Present" it would reboot after a few minutes rather than a few seconds and then go back to welcoming up. ;)
