OT: looking for replaytv hack

i have the stand alone replaytv series 4xxx. i'm looking for a hack to thur this puppy into a manual recorder. i dont need the data guide . i jus want to use it as a vcr. i have checked all over and the people over in avs cried taboo and told me to go lifetime sub. i told them. why i have already buy the unit and i want to use it as a vcr why must i pay an extra 250. if anyone could point me to the right forum that will discuss this issue freely i will greatfull....

Unfortunately, you won't find the answer you're looking for here. This is a Tivo hacking forum and ReplayTVs aren't part of our topics for discussion. The ReplayTV forums over at AVS are your best source for info, but don't expect anyone there to have a hack that circumvents the Replay subscription, even if you have good intentions for using it. Your best bet would be to get either a 2000 or 3000 series Replay or Panasonic Showstopper since none of them require a subscription to get guide data. Any of these units could be used as a digital recorder without paying a subscription fee.
