Finally have the locals populated like I want them. Edited out the ones I don't want, moved the ones where I want them. Here's the question, how and what do I save, so that if I have a power failure, or do a reboot, the current version will run by default?

make a full hard drive backup.... if you finally got it right, back it up.

and send me the 2.5.2 image with the tools installed :-)....

Don't want to pull the thing apart again. I'm looking for an edit/mod I can do from bash. To be honest, I just barely and I emphasise BARELY, have a working knowledge of linux. I don't really know how to back it up, much less create an .iso:rolleyes:

as Arnold would say...

There are DETAILED files on how to do this....

If you have bash access over serial, just use the rz command to send them to your PC using Teraterm. At a minimum you'll want to save your customized channels.dat file, but it can't hurt to backup all your mvchannels files, since they are all very small text files.

What directory holds the mvch files and the channel.dat file? The problem I am now having is that I edit my channels and they stay put for about a day, then the edits disappear and channels that I hid, reappear; and channels that I moved return to their origin. If I edit a channel.dat file in TextPad and want to replace the existing one in 2.5.2.......where is the original? What directory is it in?

Depends on what you are running. If it's SZ's or Kraven's update, you'll have to ask them. I used to run mine from /var/mvchannels.

If you use TextPad, you MUST save it in UNIX format.

Using your 2.5.2 upgrade. Where is the channels.dat file kept?
