Once a receiver has been used with a P4 card will it automatically then lock out the HU card?
If so, is there anyway to get it back to working with an HU card?
TIA

No.
Only tivo os v3.1.0 requires using a P4 card.

Thanks for your reply. But I'm not sure what you meant the "No" for.
Are you saying that putting the P4 card will not automatically upgrade the software to 3.0, blocking use with an HU card?
If the unit is at 3.0 and using a P4 card, can it be downgraded back to 2.5 so it will work with an HU card?
It's a Phillips DRS 6000 model if that makes a difference.
Thanks again.

The "No" was in response to your 1st question. Simply inserting a P4 card into a Tivo won't lock out an Hu card. Software version 3.1 (i.e. the unhacked original version downloaded by your DTivo) will only work with a P4 card. You can get it to accept an Hu card by modifying the boot299.btl file or replacing the file with one from a 2.5 or 2.5.2 DTivo.
If you insert a P4 card into your DTivo that is not Xtremed or in any way blocks the daily phone call and your DTivo is connected to a phone line, then it will eventually download the 3.1 upgrade to the Tivo OS.

If your dtivo gets upgraded to tivo os v3.1.0 then a P4 card is required. Supposedly, tivo is only sending v3.1.0 to those DTV subscribers that have been sent P4 cards.
You can do the v3.1.0 upgrade yourself by using the v3.1 tivolater or the v310 xupgrade. Then to get the HU card to work you can add another hack, as described here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=91280#post91280)
Note: In anticipation of your next question, you cannot just do the one hack I referenced and get the desired results. You must get file access by installing something like v25xtreme and doing 1 of the 2 v3.1.0 upgrades that I mentioned. If you already have v3.1.0 on your DSR6000, you can get file access as described here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21082)

Thanks guys. I think I understand.
But a more direct question or 2.
So, I'm assuming then that nothing gets written to the prom or eprom of the receiver so that it will not allow HU cards anymore?
And secondly, can I just swap the drive out, with one that has xtreme2.5.2, a backup from a SAT-T60 and then be able to use the HU card?
Thanks for your help and patience.

Ok this is what I thnk I've figured out.
Pull the 2 existing drives that worked with the P4 card from the DSR and store those.
I need to get DSR_600025xtreme, write that to my new, empty 120g drive.
Put the new 120g drive in the DSR Tivo, let it bootup, check to see that it works, put it back in the PC and expand the hours with mfsadd.
After that the DSR6000 will be able to accept and work with the HU card.
Does that sound correct?
Thanks again.
