resample dtivo stream with least quality loss?

as mentioned in the "movie factory error?" thread, i have a tystream from my dtivo that is irreplacable, but will not work in dvdmf, dvdws, spruceup nor ifoedit; all either give errors or blow up.

what i'm thinking of doing is using tmpgenc or something to re-encode the stream so i can make a dvd. i'd want to use a technique that would cause the least degradation in quality, and the (broken) mpg with cuts is about 3.5gb, so i've got almost a gb to play with if needed.

any ideas on what to use, and what setting/parms?

If you have the original ty stream give it a shot WITHOUT ANY CUTS. Possibly just creat chapter marks at the beginning and end of the commercials.

been there, done that, wrote the "for dummies" book. still no go. i'm trying mpeg2vcr now, we'll see how that goes.
