Newbie First Time Telnet

Hello,

brand new to this. I just purchased a Turbo Net card and installed it. I installed its software for being able to telnet to it. For some reason, I can not telnet to it?? Am I missing something. Also, maybe I am getting the wrong IP for the Tivo 1. How do you check that and I am assuming that it is port 22?

Your Tivo is set up as a DHCP client by default. If you're using a router or other device that acts as a DHCP server then an IP address will be assigned to your Tivo by the server. Otherwise, the Tivo will probably just sit there until it gets assigned an address. You can set up a static IP so it doesn't require a DHCP server. Check the main DTivo hacking forum for info on setting up a static IP address. There's lots of posts on this topic.

If you are using a DHCP server then you should be able to access the router or server home page via your web browser (check your manual for info on connecting to your router). You should be able to see a list of all IP addresses assigned by the router.

You can also connect to your Tivo via serial port and check your IP address from the bash prompt. Type in "ifconfig" and you'll get a series of lines of data that contain the assigned IP address, gateway, netmask, etc.

ok now I am stuck. I have installen the card in tivo and I can use it for daily calls. But I can not telnet to it. In fact after I installed using thie nic_install turbonet I can not boot from that drive. It is not a jumper setting on the drive. I am just lost. I nic install said it was sufical. I am tring to rember if there is some flash thing I was supost do. I have read so much that now I am confused. I would like in the end to extrasct and save stuff to my mac. I have used mfstools2 to build a clean image on the tivo drive. I someone can point me in the right direction please.

You might try typing your question in intelligible English so we can understand it. Go back and read the DTivo Hacking FAQ in the DirecTV Tivo Hacking Forum for some basic info on setting up and using TurboNet. You might also go back to the silicondust website and read the installation notes for the TurboNet software.

I typed that message too fast and did not proof read.
I will try again The turbonet card seems to be working I can ping it. I can make daily calls from it. I can NOT telnet into tivo.
I tryed the silicondust website and read the installation notes for the TurboNet software. That is where I got the nic_install from.
I have a sony t-60 with 120gb A drive installed using mfstools2. The tivo software is 3.?
I fell like I am missing something but I have read too many post things are very boogled in my head.
I will go read the post again.

do you need to be runing 25xtreme to get a bash prompt? Or to use extraction tools. Maybe I just started in the wrong place. :confused:
