I am trying to decide between buying a s1 s2 dtivo and have been left wondering how much slower it is to use a usb to transfer files than some cat5.

I have linux experience so I expect that this will not be incredibly hard to wrok with either way.

um, if you are using an s2, then you are using usb via ethernet. the s2 is usb 2.0 compliant AFAIK, so its just based on transfer speeds of your nic and such

The S2 DTivo's do have USB 2.0 ports, but the problem is there are no drivers currently available for Linux that support USB 2.0 network adapters. For the meantime, we are stuck with 1.1 speeds, which I've seen to be about 500 KB/sec.
