Got BASH and ...

1. Where is boot299.btl located on my TSeries 2? It's a U5. ((Whis I knew the search all dirs for unix .. if I was in DOS I'd say:

dir boot299.btl /s

2. Seems that my older methods no longer work with a Series 2. I used to love to touch things and reboot. That is no longer a joy. "fixsub/tier stuff works the same as with 3.1 on the series 1 units" ((c)) mrblack51 -=- Care to point me in the right direction of doing this fixsub/tier stuff.

3. This U5 image and mfstools2 that I loaded doesn't seem to have Joe. What/How are we editing files? Or do I just have to re-send Joe? My 24 hours to a Linux Guru says to type edit! haha

4. Well following an unamed guide that left out the -a variable when doing a backup, my original image is of no help, yes that's right translucent menus! Since the only U5 image I have found seems to suffer the same fate. Any fix for translucent menus (a zip of files and where they belong would be nice) (better yet a good U5 backup)?

1. there is no boot299.btl on the s2. this is mentioned in numerous threads, including the stickies as i recall.

2. since the s2 uses 3.1, you can't have the tivo spawn the fixsub script via tclient-lib.itcl. you need to use a cron daemon, or have it run on every reboot. if you want to use the 'touch whatever' type interface for stuff, go for it. just look at the scripts which 25xtreme modifies, and you will see how that works.

3. you need to install an editor, or transfer the files to a regular system for editing. tivo.archaic-apples.com has a number of utils compiled for the s2, including vi. otherwise, just transfer the file to your pc, edit with a unix compatible text editor, send back. make sure to chmod as appropriate.

4. translucent menus indicate that there is some stuff missing from the mfs. i have never had that problem, and have been using the image which i posted for a while. not sure why you guys are having problems. if someone wants to make a new backup, go for it.

1. OK I guess I misread and took the hint wrong. I was thinking I was looking for a file to modify a # in. The search continues here ...

2. Excellent, as fast as u replied is as fast as I got it smiling!

3. Excellent, thought I had missed something there.

4. I got hdvr2-31U5.zip from ftp.twinbrothers.com. If that is not the one you posted I would love to grab yours. If it is then poo! It seems there were definitely some files/dirs (according to you MFS). Unless I'm restoring incorrectly .. just in case heres what I did. Maybe you can find my error and it may be others wrong turn as well!

(on to a 120GB)

Downloaded hdvr2-31U5.zip
Unzipped to hdvr2-31U5.mfs
Renamed to 31U5.mfs
Burned in Nero
Copied to my 98 Machine using FAT32
Ran MFSTOOLS2 at boot and did:

mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi /mnt/c/31U5.mfs/dev/hdc
Ctrl-Alt-Del
Back in HDVR2 (translucent menus)
Deleted All Just For Fun (still translucent menus)
No Joy
