Hello All,

I took a brand new WD 120gig HD, loaded a fresh install of the TiVO software (backup image off of one of the common FTP sites). And loaded 252Xtreme ontop of that. Then loaded the drive in the DTivo and let it boot, reboot, reconfigure, reboot, reboot and it is all good with the following exceptions.

* TiVo has turned itself off thinking that I do not have a valid account (which I do - I pay them every month but I do not have a phone any more, I just use my cell.).

* TurboNET card does not work. It might be one of two things. The card is bad (but I get a link light on the switch/hub - tried both). Or it is a driver issue.

* Since the TurboNET card is not working, I can not telnet into the system to configure it, nor can I use the XP commands via the Dial Prefences.

What have I done wrong?

I want to get the DirecTV part working with my local channels and my normal programing (which I all pay for). And get my TiVO working. I dont want TiVO call home since I do not have a phone line. Getting it to call home via the network is ok with me. And lastly I want to get the networking working.

I know that I have pointed out that I have paid for things/paying for services. i just want people to know that I am not trying to steal service just to get my damn freakin unit to work.

Frustrated,
dude!

I'm confused about what you actually installed. Did you install Superzap's upgrade to 2.5Xtreme on top of a 2.5Xtreme image or did you install 2.5.2Xtreme over 2.5Xtreme? If you installed 2.5.2Xtreme you didn't need to install 2.5Xtreme first since it's a standalone image and not an upgrade. If that's the case, then it's no wonder that your TurboNet card isn't working. 2.5.2Xtreme does not contain any of the extra scripts and hacks that Superzap's upgrade does, including the Turbonet drivers, ftp, and telnet. I would suggest you reinstall 2.5Xtreme and then install Superzap's upgrade to 2.5.2. Follow the instructions for setting up the hacks using xPlusz and you'll get Turbonet, telnet, and ftp activated and also be able to set up your locals. BTW, you should be able to telnet into your DTivo via serial connection as long as you have any version of Xtreme installed on the drive.

I am having a similar problem. I recently put a new drive in my tivo because my old one broke. SO, I installed extreme25 first, then installed 2.5.2 on top of that...

My problem is that I can't seem to get a lifetime subscription...

Using the #51,1 command in xplusz yields a "Suceeded" at the top of the screen, but still no lifetime sub

Furthermore, everything I read says that in the /etc folder is a file called "Sub Test"... but there isn't. There is just plain "Sub". Needless to say, typing "touch /etc/Sub Test" or "touch /etc/Sub" doesn't work.

I have never had this problem in the past... Any suggestions?

(I can't believe I have to start this whole process over... And to think about the ordeal I went through getting turbonet to work last time... ugh... i have to do it again)

OK, so I took matters into my own hands, and literally went into the /var/hack folder and typed ./fixsub.tcl and voila, it says lifetime subscription... it even SAYS last call, successful, yet i still can't record and i can't actually go in manually and "make the daily call"... this makes no sense...

i got it working with xplusz... ugh... this still isn't going to end, i know it...

Ok.. I must be doing something wrong by reading your replies. Can someone please is basic english and simple sentences (I guess I am reading into the FAQs/HowTos too much) of what I need to do. I have a blank (not right now, it has a nonworking copy of TiVO code) that I can load whatever and do whatever that needs to be done. If you could, please give me the URLs of the code/images to use also. I know that I am asking a lot since all this is documented in FAQs/HowTos but some how I am misreading or misunderstanding them.

Thanks
dude

PS> thanks to everyone that has replied so far!
