I having some problems following through a tutorial to get bash. Here's the link.

http://www.stevejenkins.com/tivo/newbie.html

I am getting stuck on step 2.7.3 . I can mount my floppy but I can't mount any partitions on hdc. So what I did was restart the computer and read into the boot logs. When it was doing a Partition check it gave me this error.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Partition Check:
hda: hda1 hda2
hdc: Signature 1492, be16 Signature 9214
16:00 block 0 has signature 9214 rather 1492
unknown partition tables

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a Series2 Tivo with Software version 4.0. Before I tried to do this upgrade to get bash I did a back up using Tiger's Mfs Tools. So I don't know what could cause this error or how to fix it. Some help would greatfully be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mukieluk

i had the same problem. however, i was able to mount my drive if i connected it to the master primary IDE channel on the PC(not the master secondary IDE channel like it says in the guide). The hard drive becomes hda instead of hdc so you have to change some of the commands in the guide to reflect that.

well I was able to add the hack dir and I put in

tnlited 23 /bin/bash -login &

in the rc.sysinit file and when I put the hard drive back into the Tivo nothing happens. I can't telnet to it but it does startup just fine. Is there some other way to get a bash though telnet? Is it because I have software 4.0? Anyone have a good tutorial that can help me?

Thanks,
Mukieluk
