Linux or Windows

I am planning on connecting a old Pentium-III computer up to my Sony TiVO SVR-2000's serial port that connects to the Cable Convertor Box.

If I do, is using Windos NT 2000 OK? Or should it be using Linux since that is what the TiVO uses? Or does it not really matter ?

for general hacks, either will do. Use what you are comfortable with. If you decide to get an ethernet card, and start playing w/ extraction, having a windows box is helpful. A few of the tools for extraction are only released in a windows form. (Many are open source and will compile under windows and linux).
