View Full Version : Question and possible problem with Turbonet Install CD
I decided to go ahead and upgrade my T60 to a new drive lastnight. So I took my drive that came with the unit, which is virgin, and used MFStools to do the upgrade. Then I stuck it in the T60, and let the software upgrade to 3.1.1-x... Once done, I went ahead and unstalled the latest turbonet drivers from jafa's website. Here's where things got strange. I noticed that when his scripts went out and discovered my unit type and software version, it came back with "Philips 3.1.0-1-0-001", and not Sony. Anyone know about this or anyone have an explinations?

It sounds like your "virgin" drive had a Philips Tivo image on it. What do you see when the DTivo boots up? If you have a Sony image on the drive I assume that you should see a Sony logo appear right after the 2nd boot screen (..a few more minutes). You'll see a Philips logo with a Philips image. Did you let the upgrade occur naturally by letting the DTivo dial out? I suppose it's possible that jafa's TurboNet installation CD just looks for the software version and not the make of the DTivo so you may get the Philips info on any DTivo. Anyone else seen this?
The virgin drive came out of my T60. So I feel comfortable it's right. Plus the drive have Sony stamped all over it from the factory. Several things now lead me to believe that it's one of two things. One, jafa's script doesn't really look for the version type. Two, when I downloaded the new software over the phone line, it downloaded some sorta hybrid of the software. I honestly don't know.
I do know this DTV has been having some issues with locals. The last couple of upgrades I've done, I've had to do a clear and delete program guide and to do list, AND call DTV to have them resend my programing signals to my subbed card. This time, I didn't have to call them, just do the clear and delete. I also heard some time ago that only the T60s were having this type of problem. So it's possible, in order to fix the issue, they've released some sorta hybrid version of the software.
The only way to know for sure is if jafa can answer, or someone else that's used the latest version of his turbonet drive can verify what they saw. Not a huge deal, cause everything seems to work, but I'd like to find out for my own good.

The Sony DTivos aren't the only ones having issues with locals. All series 1 units are having problems if they're still at version 2.5-01. I recently upgraded both of my 2.5Xtremed DSR6000s to 2.5.2, did a Clear Program Data & To Do List & my locals have come back to stay, at least for the moment. So far they've been stable for several weeks and counting.
