View Full Version : getting started w/ extreme

Hello there. I am getting started with DTivo updates and I am getting confused by a couple of things:
First, which image do I want? This is an unflashed unit fresh out of the box. I am looking at files named 25XTREME.ISO and d6k252x1.mfs.
Second, wtf is a .MFS file? I have never heard of this, do I just burn it like I would an ISO file?

depends on what unit u have that's the ISO u want to use. MFS file is backup file created with mfstools2.0.

I have a DSR6000, the current OS level is 2.00-001-001, I think. I have had it running for about a day now; still getting used to it.
is mfstools a unix program? I didn't see any details or a download linkt in the extreme 2.5 thread.

u need 25extreme.iso image for ur dsr6000. go to www.tivostuff.com download section. its has mfstools2.0 as well as extreme images.

OK, so I do the 2.5 first, and after that is installed I would do the update to 2.5.2? Thanks, that bit of info is extremely helpful.

i went to 3.1 instead of 2.5.2
but yes. u load 25extreme.iso followed by xupgrade2.5.2 or 3.1 which ever one u want. there is a 2.5.2extereme image on www.tivostuff.com which need to be restored to the drive. u might want to try that out and see if it works for u.
the way i did my sony was 2.5 extreme followed by Kraven's 3.1 tivolater and blisTerPopper

Heh this is starting to look like a chat session. Are you on IRC or anything like that?
What is the tradeoff with 2.5.2 vs 3.1? Will either update affect the stability of my system? The 2.00-001-001 software that came from the factory seems to be slow to respond to the remote and locks up. I also dislike this epg format compared to the standalone Tivo I was using until yesterday.
