View Full Version : Tytool: Could Not Obtain List Error - Linux Question

Im using tserver_mfs6 and tytool6r3. I can manually
go to the /var/hack directory and start the server. Tytool
connects, obtains the list, and displays the shows.
Everything works great.

HOWEVER...
If I add the line "/var/hack/tserver_mfs6 &"
to my rc.sysinit.author file so that it can start automatically,
Tytool can connect, but it can "Not Obtain List"!

What am I doing wrong?!

Why the duplicate post ?

Please confine your questions to a single thread.

Your question is a good one, the only thing I can ask to try to ascertain an answer is how are you "adding" it to the rc.sysinit?

Joe? Or editing it on the PC ?

AFAIK you need to be in the dir before you run tserver. I have an alias defined in my .profile

alias tw="cd /var/hack/tytool; ./tserver_mfs6"

that I use to manually start it. (I don't like running anything more than I have to.)

There's probably a way to it directly from rc.sysinit too, or by calling a 2 line .sh script.

or you can put Tytool and the NowShowing.tcl in \var\tmp. This is the directory that seems to work bestwhen launching from the rc.sysinit.

Either BubbleLamp's method, or this one will work.:D

Since I can already start it manually BubbleLamp's solution
isnt exactly what Im looking for (thanks anyways).

Ill try putting everything in the /var/temp directory, but it dawned
on me that the line in my rc.sysinit.author file is:

"/var/hack/tserver_mfs6 &"

but should it be:

"/var/hack/./tserver_mfs6 &" instead?

Does it make a difference?

Thanks!

p.s. Do you know if a
"cd /var/hack/tytool" can be placed inside of a rc.sysint file?

you will have to change it to reflect the change in directory. Is would then look like this
/var/tmp/tserver_mfs6 &

don't put a ./ in the middle of a command line.

and lastly, why ? I don't think that is a good idea:(

The /var/tmp directory is deleting the 2 files!!

I copy the tserver_mfs6 and the NowShowing.tcl to
/var/tmp and updated rc.sysinit.author to point to this new
directory. I manually start the server, and everything
works fine.

Every time I reboot, however, the files are gone!
Is there another /var/temp directory that you put them in?

Cheers!

p.s. Isnt the /var/temp on partition 9? Should the files
reside in partition 4/7 so that they wont be deleted?

In case anyone is interested...

I put the files back into the /var/hack directory and
simply changed my rc.sysinit.author to:

pushd
cd /var/hack
tserver_mfs6 &
popd

Works great!
