I'm seeking advise on buying a new Tivo. DirecTivo Series 1 or Series 2?

Here's the background?

Okay, I'm a dork. I have two Dtivos and one SA that I use for home movies. I'm a legit DTV subscriber and have a TiVo Lifetime Subcription.

I'd like to get another DirecTivo and am thinking about getting the Hughes DirecTivo Series 2.

Thanks to this board I'm a decent "hacker". I've upgraded about 20 of my friends' Tivos and added programs, modified system files...

My goal is to get some video off a Tivo some day. I know that I can do this with my series 1 DTivos if I add an ethernet card.

Also I'd love to see the $99 thing that Tivo is offering for playing mp3s and pictures and programming the Tivo through their website.

Do you think the Tivo Gods here on this board will figure out how to unscramble Series 2 programs soon?

My plan is to go out and buy a Series 2 (unless you convince me not to), add a 120GB HD and then hack it and get the bash. Anything I should be aware of? Should DO's or should NOT DO's?

I love you guys and I'm glad that the forum exists!

If you want HMO, the ONLY option at this time is to get Stand Alone Series II TiVo's... The Series II DirecTV boxes do not support HMO at this time, and likely never will.

If you want to extract video, that is possible today on all of the current TiVo's. Series I TiVo's are easier than Series II TiVo's to hack, but all can be hacked. Not all of the video extraction stuff has been ported to the Series II, but some has.
