Is my tivo dead. just got a hardly used tivo from friend. have not hacks on it have not tried. and all i have is a black screen. tried to shut it off will not shut off.

I have even powered it down for a while and then power it up. still nothing but black screen.

Is there any specal reset that i need to do.

thank you

If the dtivo does not even display the first welcome powering up screen on any video output, I would call that dead.

Even a dtivo without a hard drive can display the first screen. (It must be in the boot flash.)

Any sounds of life? Drive spinning, fan? If so, make sure your audio & video connections are good and correct. If not, check out the power cord itself, and the fuse on the power supply (visible, but be careful).

Power supplies can be replaced, but it's an expensive and involved undertaking. And once you've done it you risk finding that was not all that was wrong.

People sell dead DTivos on eBay, either identified as such or not. If you want to sell it directly and openly to someone who knows it's dead and is willing to pay salvage value, give me a PM.
