View Full Version : Hughes S1 w/ 3.1 ... What's the best way to hack it?

I have a legit subbed Hughes S1 DTivo with a P4 card. I also have the old HU card if I need that for some reason. I ordered a Turbonet and want to know what the best way to hack this box is. My goals are pretty simple, I want the following:

XPlusZ
TivoWeb
Extraction (mfs-ftp & TyStudio)
Block software changes, as much as possible anyway.

I see conflicting views on 2.5.2 vs 3.1. Is there any reason I would want to use one of the other at this point? Seems like all the hacks work on 3.1 now, but the speed seemed better on 2.5.2. The only feature I use from 3.1 is sort, and I can live without it.

There is also the issue of Xtreme vs hacking my standard 3.1 OS. I don't see a 2.5 Xtreme image on TivoStuff.com for Hughes boxes, that might be a problem. I do have an older 2.0 backup from the time I added a 100GB drive. SuperZap's upgrade will upgrade that, right? Is there a better way to do Xtreme? What about the anti-Xtreme code in TivoWeb?

Or I can keep my 3.1 OS and use the TurboNet CD to get file/network access and go from there to install the rest. I don't mind doing that, but it would be nice to get everything in one shot.

Is there any way to increase the speed of the unit? More swap? It's getting REALLY slow now. I may just need to toss all the recordings and season passes, etc.. I was planning that anyway since I can't extract without noscramble and that will render all the recorded shows useless anyway.

I'm very familiar with Linux, just not with the TiVo side of things and there is a lot of conflicting info on here. Any help clarifying some of these issues would be great and helpfull for other newbies.

Check out the DTivo Hacking FAQ and the How Tos Only sticky threads at the top of this forum. You should find more than enough info as well as links to other Tivo-related sites that will get you well on your way to Tivo Hacking Heaven.
