I'm aware of some hashing going on by DTV.. seems that whatever they did has taken out the locals of atleast the BN market. myself and a friend both lost our locals early this morning. I'm running a clear to do list and program data now to see if that corrects it. Anyone have any assumptions or solutions to the porblem?

I am running 2.5.1

Well, I'm pretty sure this has been covered, but I'll cover it again.

Locals are going to start dropping for everyone running anything less the 3.1. There were backend changes pending at DTV and these were the primary fixes in 3.1. Looks like DTV is now implementing these changes since TiVo has been rolling out 3.1 to everyone subscribed and dialing in for months now.

midnightmaraude: did you miss the locals thread that has been stickied at the top of this forum? how many locals threads do we need?

So if we lost them once and 2.5.2 solved it, you're saying it'll happen a second time? Any idea when that's supposed to happen?

Hi, Kraven:

Was just wondering what you meant by "backend changes pending at DTV" and "these were the primary fixes in 3.1."

Ok so basically I have to go from 2.5.1 which i love (If I want to have locals) to 3.1 which I hear is not so good and riddled with DTV as the interface. Well ya gotta do what ya gotta do. This isn't going to interfere with my current recordings is it?

Once 3.1 is on.. will it automatically acquire the new locals or do i have to do some manual shifting on that also.?

v2.5.2 should get you the locals so I would try that first. If not you can always go to v3.1.0 but not the other way around.

I've found that the most stable solution to getting locals and keeping them is to start with a fresh install of 2.5Xtreme and upgrade from there. This also prevents you from having to do a Clear Program Data & To Do List. Set up your locals using xPlusz, reboot, and you should be seeing locals. If they don't show up right away, try uploading midupdate.tcl and run it manually. This will force a connection to the satellite to retrieve program data and cause the locals in the guide to populate right away with guide data.

one little problem... my locals showed up immediately. They are all there with even the show listings. however, when I tune to them i get a blank screen and at the bottom it says.. channel is not available. Is this something common that will fix itself in an hour or so..? Or do I have to do something further to access them.?

Midnightmaraude.... you "may" have to do a Clear Program Data & To Do List. That's what some people had to do when upgrading from 2.5 to 2.5.2. I'm not sure if that's the case when upgrading to 3.1 as I haven't had to do that I hope I won't. It worked for me but others had to go as far as uploading midupdate.tcl and forcing their local channels to come in. Seems like there are different solutions for different situations.

I'll try that now.. although i did clear the to do list before going to 3.1 which midupdate.tcl is geared for 3.1 version, do you know?

I really don't know too much about midupdate.tcl. You could probably do a search and find more info on it within these forums. I was fortunate and didn't have to use it when getting my locals back. Just be prepared when you Clear Program Data & To Do List. It'll take at least an hour. I let my T60 do that overnight and by the time I woke up in the morning... I had my locals back. I better stop talking about it before I jinx it and lose my locals.

Midupdate is not OS-specific. The last was 3/15/03. There was a version just prior to that, not done by Juppers, that had a problem. The 3/15/03 version can be identified in that it mis-spells "is" as "id" in "Current Market ID id xxx."

well I ran clear teh to do list and programming and rihgt when it was done the locals came back. Seeems that's the key when going to 3.1 So other than the fact that DTV posted their name on nearly every screen and almost annihalated the TiVo guy... 3.1 seems to run a bit faster Thanks all
