View Full Version : Upgrade to 2.52 gone terribly insane!

I was helping a friend over the phone upgrade to 2.52, by means of uploading the xtreme252 files to his var/hack/ directory and doing the upgrade.

He was 3/4 way thru the process, and he never finished the upgrade script and his tdivo at version 2.5.1 with a sony sat-t60 went to the attached jpg ofa picture of the screen!!!

This screen was the upgrade screen ON TOP OF the running box!!!
I don't dare have him reboot, and fear his box is corrupted. I believe he might have been recording, when I had him start the upgrade process. Might be a big no-no ?

SEE ATTACHED picture of the tivo screen !

I also had him e-mail the txt of his session below:
bash-2.02# ./upgrd252.tcl
<166>May 17 01:00:50 tcl[154]: Tcl created pool of 1458176 bytes

Upgrade v2.5.2 started
This process is now going to install the v2.5.2 software on
drive /dev/hda7 (strongly recommend you backup first).
Do you want to continue (y/n)?

I would tell you buddy to ride the storm out, and re-run the script. I did not have mine go on that way, but the messaging was the same, and I had to just 'walk away'.. When I came back all was well.. Please post again so I know how this turned out.

He finally rebooted, and was still running the origional xtreme, and was afraid to re-attemt the upgrade....as I was preparing him (mentally) for a complete restore....What went wrong ???

I did the upgrade in the same fasion but needed to rename the two files after FTPing them to have the filenames all in lower case again. Other than that, the upgrade went flawlessly. Additionally, I did the "Clear to do list and program data" and it brought back my legit subbed locals. I had been wanting to upgrade since SZ came out with that sweet Xupgrade, and losing my locals gave me that last nudge I needed.

That the files completed the transfer? It would do no harm to move the files again (maybe an fresh extract of download?) Overwrite the files in the /hack directory... Rename to lowercase if need be.. (I had to) and re run the .tcl.

Additional question to anyone reading this... Any way to keep spotbeam locals longer??

Please post your outcome.

thx
