I have used TyStudio to extraction video from my DirecTivo, now I need to know the best way to create a VCD in Mac OS X.

1. How should the video be saved (SVCD/441k)?
2. Do I need the QuickTime 6 Pro?
3. Do I need the QuickTime 6 MPEG-2 Playback Component?
4. Do I need to use iMovie?

I do have QuickTime 6 Pro with the MPEG-2 Playback Component and I have Toast Titanium, so I can read MPEG-2 into the QuickTime player, but when I try to export the Movie to "Toast Video CD" I get the message,

"Couldn't export the movie "example.mpg" because there is no video track."

Try playing around with VCD builder: http://homepage.mac.com/johan/

VCD Builder will automatically choose SVCD or VCD based on your source material.

You shouldn't need QTPro. You may want to go with SVCD instead of VCD if it will suit your needs. My understanding is SVCD is mpeg-2 while VCD is mpeg-1. Tivo is mpeg-2 so it is quicker and easier to stay in mpeg-2.

Also, look at http://homepage.mac.com/rnc/ for a bunch of packaged tools and info.
