Just finished installing the card, turned on Telenet, Tivoftp and Tivoweb using xpluz commands. Veryfied they are running...my router assigns an ip address but I cannot ping to it. Of course i cannot telenet or ftp to it either...

My undestanding is that 2.5.2 upgrade from Superzap already has the drivers installed so all i need to do is turn the hacks on and off I should be going. I get a blinking green light from the turbonet card.

Don't know what else to try...I veryfied that the ip address is being requested from the tivo but like I said I can't ping to it.

Did you reboot the DTivo after entering the commands? Some of the commands are set to run at boot up so just turning them on with xPlusz doesn't activate them until the DTivo is rebooted.

Yes i have rebooted several times. I have been going at it for over 6 hours trying different things and have achieved some success but still don't have things working the way I want to.

First the good news. I moved the unit close to the router and using a 3 ft cable I was able to ping and ftp, telnet and tivoweb all worked.

I then moved the unit back and using a 50 ft cable I was able to get the IP address but no ping. I know, I know sounds like a bad cable right? that's what I thought...

I redid the cable (I do my own)...checked it with a tester...hooked it up to my laptop it...it worked fine, hooked it up to the TIVO same darn thing...get IP address but cannot ping. I then tried a 50' crossover cable...tested it thoroughly..laptop has no problem with it, hooked it up to the TIVO same results ip but no ping...(I connected the crossover cable directly to a bridged PC).

I know it must be the cable otherwise it wouldn't have worked at all but I checked and double checked my cable (I have never had problems before with my own made cables and the laptop doesn't seem to have a problem with it).

The only other thing I can think of is maybe the cable length. I thought 50' was well within the range but now I am not sure anymore. It is good quality 5E cable but I guess I'll just keep plugging away...afterall that's half the fun right

Sound like you are having link problems. But without knowing what your connecting it to normally it would be hard to diagnose. If you can force the port on whatever you connect to, do so.

100Mb cable runs are good for 100 meters total using certified cable. You are OK there.

I redid the cables and that seemed to fix it. I am not quite sure what the problem was the first couple of times i did the cables. The third time seemed to be the charm. The turbonet card must be really sensitive to line noise.

You might try getting some better quality RJ45 crimp connectors. I do my own cables as well and they don't always fit like the commercial cables do. I sometimes have to jiggle the connector to get a good connection. It might also have to do with the crimp tool itself. I'm sure there are better crimp tools than the one I'm using but I don't make enough cables to warrant the extra expense of getting a really good one.
