Oops, meant to post in extraction forum!

For the last couple of days I've been thinking about putting together a HTPC. So I started looking and found myHTPC.net (http://www.myhtpc.net/) Anyway, I ended up spending the day playing with it and am very impressed. I saw a few familiar names over there, but don't see any discussion here.

A couple of possibilities interest me. ()

1. A myHTPCA plugin to open/view/select Tivo Listings and stream from TiVo to PC/TV using mplayer. Linux has MythTV, and XBox has (will have) XBMP. The PC needs a nice front end too.

2. As a nice PC/TV front end for all those wonderful MPEGs I am now creating from TiVo.

3. TiVo Video player for PC with integrated DTivo remote control.

I watch TiVo on PC (a good bit) via ATI AIW Pro with a long s-video cable from tivo. My remote doesn't work from 2nd room (extenders sort of work) so I use TIVORemote which uses sendkey via TivoWeb(It all works, just not elegant) With sendkey integrated in myHTPC the keyboard (as well as my ATI RF Remote Wonder) could be used to navigate and control the GUI (away from the Tivo)

4. myHTPC uses a nice onscreen TV guide based upon XMLTV (http://sourceforge.net/projects/xmltv/) which could also be used to select programs to watch/record. (albeit redundant if you have oncreen control of the TiVo GUI via the myHTPC interface)

Lots of other interesting features. Thoughts?

I'm trying to perform a similar setup using MythTV. I've only just recently got bash on my HDVR2 but will, hopefully soon, perform the following:

Schedule recordings via Tivo interface.

Somehow, hopefully via the remote control, enable a "dump to archive" option. I might just have to cron this and dump regularly, but I hope I can just replace the dump-to-vcr button with this instead since I don't want every recording to last forever.

My file server is a Network Appliance F760 with 1TB available via NFS, CIFS, and FTP

I need to figure out where I should be doing my mpeg conversion. I assume since the CPU is pretty whimpy on the HDVR2 I'm better off dumping tystreams to the NetApp (via NFS or FTP) first, then kicking off a job on my MythTV box to convert it to mpeg.

That same "kickoff" script, once completed, will enter the information into the MythTV database so I can browse/catagorise in my MythTV box.

I then hope to setup my universal remote so the same buttons work on the MythTV unit when that input is selected.

Next step is to hookup MythTV to burn DVD's, but I don't think I'm going to run out of space on the filer (1000 hour?) anytime soon, so I've got time to figure that part out.

Nice thing about this setup is I don't need to deal with an mpeg recorder card in the MythTV unit, just playback. I also will get the other spiffy features of MythTV (MP3, MAME, Weather, etc) along-side my happy Tivo recordings.

Does anyone have any suggestions before I get too deep in this setup? Warnings and experience are also very welcome.
