I've had my eye on a demo T60 at a local store. It is $99 "with activation". I've tried to get them to sell it to me for cash, but no go. I don't have a problem with activating the unit (I'm 100% legal with my boxes), I just don't want the one year extension comittment.
First, is this a good deal on a T60?
Second, does anyone know if they (the retailer) has any other options on "activation" of the unit to get their rebate? I remember my first receiver purchase only had a one month comittment. Is the only option they have a one year comittment?
Thanks.

The 1-year extension is a standard DTV requirement for activation of any equipment on a new or existing account. It doesn't mean that you have to keep the new equipment activated for a year. It just means that you have to keep your DTV account active for an additional 12 months from the time you add the new equipment with at least one receiver and a minimum of Total Choice or above for your programming package. And, yes, $99 is a GREAT deal on a SAT-T60. I'd buy it in a heartbeat, commitment or not.
The dealer needs for you to activate the access card within 30 days or he gets hit with a big surcharge from DTV which, of course, he passes on to you. I believe it's about $300-350. Hence the requirement to pay via credit card so they can charge you if you don't activate within the required period. You can cancel the new equipment within 24 hours if you so desire as long as you meet the extension requirements for your account as outlined above.

Oh well, this was only for new accounts. Existing subs price is $499.
