Hi everyone:
Hope all is well on the homefronts.
I am having a bit of a problem with my Sony T-60. I got the GSOD. No problem, it cleared in 20 minutes. But then it goes into an infinite loop of... the welcome I'm booting up, then the database thing "this will take a long time..." and then it reboots and repeats itselp over and over again. It never gets to the point where it says it's 51%, 61% etc...
I put 25Extreme on it a while ago and its worked fine since. Any help is greatly appreciated. It's a crappy rainy night here on the east coast and it would be great if I had some TV!!!!
Thanks a bunch,
jwmghf:(

First thing to try is re-seating the white ribbon cable that goes from the power supply to the motherboard. There are lots and lots of posts concerning rebooting, use the search.

Ok I pulled the ribbon cable from the motherboard and reseated. Still nothing. It continues the infinite loop process.
I love working on these units to make them work. What sort of search title should I use to bring up a thread that refers to this problem?? If I know that I'll be set.
Do I just try Rebooting?
Thanks,

I'm getting a similar problem only I am not even getting past the GSOD. It keeps resetting. This started around 6:30 EST, just after the race. Is anyone else experiencing these problems?

Make sure to do the same thing on the power supply side also. You can search for rebooting or look at the post 2 below this reguarding updating database.

Ok, I'll pull it on the other side also and post back. I already looked at the thread below mine, not entirely however, so I will take a closer look at it. Thanks for your help, hopefully I can get through this without having to re-install Extreme!!!

I unplugged my receiver at that time also to load up the new card and that's exactly what happened. Are you a PrivateSat member by any chance???
Any other advice at this point is greatly appreciated!!!

Pulled and reseated the ribbon cable on the other end. Ran Powermax on both drives a few times. They checked out with no errors. I left the unit unplugged for about 2 weeks. Tonite I plugged it back in and it does the same thing. "Welcome...Almost there..."Updating the Database. This will take a long time." And then black screen and it reboots. It does this over and over again.
I don't understand why I am getting "Updating the Database" message.
Should I remove the little battery that's in it? I'm not sure what my next step should be. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,

jwm: just out of curiosity, what type of drives are they? I have had to replace TWO Maxtor 120GB 5400's. Maxtor replaced them with 160GB drives. I'm wondering if these 120GB Maxtors had some type of design flaw. Anyone else notice this?

If you don't have recordings you don't mind losing I would start over with 25xtreme. Maybe even burn a new cd from Tivostuff.com .

My Primary drive is a Maxtor 120 gig. It did check out ok when I ran Powermax.
I can re-install Extreme. I will lose some recordings but I can just record them again. No biggie.
I have another T60 I am currently using as a replacement. Can I pull the factory hard drive out and replace it with the drives from the unit giving me the problem to test them??? Technically, should this work??
Thanks,

If you move a drive from one tivo to another you will get a error #51 message. The only way to fix it is to do a clear and delete everything. You will end up with a factory fresh drive. (no season passes etc.)

Not for nothing, but check to make sure that it's jumpered as the master drive before you reinstall it in the Tivo - I made that error

If it's a single drive configuration then it should be jumpered as cable select by default. Setting it as master may still work but it comes from the factory set as cable select and should really be reset to its original setting to be sure.

I'll check, but I'm sure the 120 gig hd is set as Master and the original drive is set as slave. It was working fine for months before it decided to start this infinite loop problem. I haven't touched the jumpers at all. And I ran the PowerMax test with them set up on secondary master for the 120 gig and secondary slave for the original 40 gig drive.
I had read something about trying to get bash while the ird is on. The thread said that there is a way to tell in one of the files if one or both tuners crapped out on me. Anyone know anything about tuners that fail???
Thanks,

(Any other theories are welcome.)
