View Full Version : upgrading but nothing seems to work

Hey Guys,

I am tring to upgrade two units to 2.5.2. I have tried all day with no luck. First I took the harddrives out and connected to PC. My PC was not finding drives from boot. Read and tried changing edit_bootproms etc.. So I when to bash. I sent the files now have no idea if they went or not. I did not in TeraTerm Change directory. Do I need to. I send the files Zmodem. I think to war/hack. It took two hours to send and then nothing. I followed upgrade directions in the read me, but nothing. I know I am alittle slow but any help would be great.

The files should have been sent to /var/hack. You can enter the command "ls" to display the contents of the directory and see if they are there.

You'll need to post more information on exactly what files you sent and where they went for anyone to help I think.

For starters, try this:

* at the bash prompt type "cd \var\hack" without the quotes
* then type "ls" without the quotes

Copy and past the results in a follow-up post so we can see what's there (or not there).

Will do. I also have another problem. I took my single drive unit harddrive to a friends house late last night. I was able to boot in with upgrade disk. I installed 2.5.2. When I powered up tivo got GSOD. Ten minutes later it was working but no upgrade. Still at 2.5.01. Should I try again? If I just want to start from scratch with 25xtremeis there anything I need to do or will it over write the drives for me? Thanks again.

25xtreme should overwrite whatever is on the drive. Make sure the system BIOS reports the correct drive size as well.

Please help as I am pulling my hair out. Start with a 120 5200 drive. Run 25xtreme. Put back in unit fire up. Activate lifetime sub. Watch TV for several hours. That drive out, attach to PC. Boot from upgrade iso CD. After hitting enter twice, type upgrd252.sh Follow on screen directions. Put drive in unit. Get tivo updating new software and then nothing. I have tried three times, using different boot disk downloaded from different sites. System still says software version 2.5.01. What am I doing wrong? PLEASE HELP
