A RANT about season passes and wishlists (posted also, at tivocommunty):

It bugs me that these are separate items. It would be great if we could add it all into the wishlists. BTW, AGW has put together a wonderfull backup utility at the tivocommunty.com that is more stable now. It backs up both season passes and wishlists in great form.

The problem with season passes to begin with is that they are channel specific. A much more viable solution seems possible to me. Season passes are wonnderfull except that next season, you MIGHT have to re-add the item. Channels change. Time slots do change. This is why I would like to see wishlists get a little more complex and do away with season passes all together.

1) Titles for wishslists should start comming up when you start typing them in as they do with season passes?

2) What about adding an option to KEEP the most current "date" of a particular show, in addition to the option for "first run" which we already have. In this way we would not be tied to a particular channel or time slot, and could still see the latest stuff. Better yet, keep a log of what we have actually "watched" assuming this is possible, and continue to record episodes we have just not gotten around to watching.

Point is there is really no need for both. One list could take care of both season passes and wishlists and would not have to be channel specific.

I am just ranting here but would be currious to hear others comments about the matter.

Season Passes aren't seasonal, you don't have to re-add them. How would your dtivo know when the season is over anyway?

Check your season pass manager, they don't go away at the end of a season.

I updated my post to more clearly state my meaning.

I understand your desire for a more robust wishlist interface, and it isn't such a bad idea to merge the two.

However, I think that you may be incorrect about Season Pass functionality.

You will NEVER need to "re-add" your Season Pass for the next season, it is not channel specific, vis a vis the channel that is carrying the show. If a show changes affiliates, or networks, it will be reflected in the Season Pass info and recorded.

Time slots are handled as well which is exactly why folks would want a DTivo in the first place.

I appreciate your response JJ. Thanks for all your help in the past.

On my T60 Season Passes ARE channel specific. Wishlists are not. Hence, when search for a show such, it may list it on several networks. If you want the most current listings to record, you must choose the channel that seems to have the most current one. It would be nice to record according to 'date' regardless of channel. Better yet, it would be nice to filter the record according to whether one had actually 'watched' it yet or not.

Just my 2 cents...

Back when our locals took this recent turn that's been such an issue in the TiVo/Hacking community, I noticed something. See, I had some season passes, which do show up as being seemingly channel specific...I say "seemingling" because the season pass manager shows them listed as <title>(channel), for example, Srubs(4 NY4). However, when some (most) of my locals disappeared, the season pass manager still showed the programs listed, however the channel affiliation changed to either the channel 0-99 local affiliate that was still available, or the national affiliate in the 380's. In other words, what used to say Scrubs(LA 9?), now says Scrubs(NY 4). This happened on its own.

The point is, Season Passes are kind of "Self-Healing." This is a minor point, granted...but one that you're unlikely to know about unless you've seen it happen.
