I've upgraded all of my TiVos and DirecTivos with the usual modifications...But, I did them all individually not via Kraven. Is there a way to opt out of the software upgrades so I don't lose everything. (I have made backups)

Are you saying that you just installed individual hacks without installing Xtreme or Kraven's update or that you installed Xtreme and the hacks instead of Kraven's? Your description does not provide enough specific detail to understand what it is you are trying to do.

I've installed each modification individually. No Xtreme or Kraven.

Both Hughes Series 1 DTivos have Turbonets, Tivoweb, tserver_mfs6, tivoftpd, telnet, elseed, noscramble kernel mods, etc. I'd like to prevent the mods from being trashed by a software upgrade. Is there some way to opt out of them?

Thanks!

Don't connect a phone line or a turbonet. Hope that no upgrades are sent via the satellite (they haven't done this yet). Without making successful periodic calls to the tivo service you might lose your sub status (pre v3.1.0) or get nags (v3.1.0) so you will need to install a hack like xPlusz NOPHONE or fixsub.

Dtivos make 2 kinds of phone calls. One to the tivo service (where upgrades currently come from) and another to directv to upload PPVs and maintain any special sports packages like NFL ST. The tivo service call is usually a local phone call and the directv call is always a toll free call. You can install a programmable toll call restrictor (Viking makes one) that you can program to block the tivo service call but allow the directv call.

There is another possiblilty to block the tivo service call but allow the directv call, but I haven't tested. Use the PhoneConfig script available here (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=88781#post88781) to set a bogus dial in number.

There are probably other ways but they would involve modifying tivo files or the MFS database.
