What is the best TIVO to get? Are there easier ones to hack, or are all of them just as hard. Are teh newer ones that much better than old ones? Thanks.

That depends on what you plan on doing with it. If you have DirecTV then a DirecTivo is definitely the way to go. If you plan on extracting videos for burning to DVD then a series 1 model is preferable and far easier to hack, although there have been advancements made in this area on the series 2 models as well. If you have only cable TV and/or off-the-air antenna as your source then a standalone model is what you need. The series 1 models are again the easiest to hack.

I have DTV, BEV and DISH. So I am looking to tape satellite signal TV. What is a stand alone, you mustmean that it is just the TIVO box and it hooks up to the other electronics instead of having for example a DTV receiver combined with TIVO into one unit. In my case I would probably want to tape stuff from all 3 satellite systems (if that is even possible, I am new to the whole idea, kinda in a knew part of the woods). However I have been hacking or over 2 years. I am in Canada too. What would you suggest,a series 1 stand alone, or series 2. How much do these cost roughly, new or used. I hoep I am not bothering you to much with all the newbie questions. Thanks.

there arent any stand alone tivos which work with 3 input sources. you can do 2 sources at the same time, but 3 is no good. course, your best bet is to have multiple stand alone units.

I am in Canada too.
tivo doesnt service canada. if you want your tivo to work as a regular tivo, then you will need to generate your own guide data, at least for bev.

btw, dss/dtv/e*/bev/charlie/whatever sat hacking talk is not allowed here...just fyi

Sorry for mentioning it, however I did not mean I wan going to do all 3 at the same time, I meant I would change 1 TIVO between the 3 systems. So if I cannot get TIVO service, which i knew, how do i generate guide data. That means that I must have to do something with the receiver, which i was going to do anyways right. I looked at a Sony SAtT60 Tivo once in my life, nothing more. So I do not know what to look for in a unit, especially since i will be hacking it, there must be some ideal functions to look for and certain units that are easier and of better quality than others. That is all I am looking for right now, so I canget one and then start to use the info I pinted off from the forums, and the software. Thanks.

If you are in Canada, you will want a series 1 Tivo.
