Im still new to video extraction and Im trying to figure out why in tytool I can create a dvd in less than 15 minutes, but if I create a mpg and try to burn a dvd in DVD Movie Factory it would take around 8 or more hours. I know about rendering but why does DVD Movie Factory need to render and tytool does not? Or am I completely off mark here? Could someone please explain?

It shouldn't take you that long to process a DVD in MOvie Factory. It sounds like you're not patching the 1st header to 352X480 before you import the mpeg files to DVDMF. I use DVDWS all the time and it only takes me about 20-30 minutes to import my videos, create a menu, add chapter stops, and compile the project for burning.

That is what I thought. I did not change the header. So all I need to do is change the first header using dvd patcher? Is there anythingelse I need to do? Thanks for the reply!

You'll need to patch the 1st header of each video clip you import to 352X480 @3.5MBit using DVDPatcher. If you note the total size of all of the clips you imported, you should see roughly the same size indicated for the required hard drive space needed for the compilation. I'm surprised you're actually able to import the file if it hasn't been patched. I've never used DVDMF but I hear it's basically the same as DVDWS but with fewer features. If I import an mpeg file that hasn't been patched, DVDWS will hang when it tries to compile the final project.
Are you using files from a SA Tivo or a DTivo? If you're using a SA Tivo, the extra time could be a result of transcoding the audio to 48kHz, it it has that capability (and I'm not sure it does). I use mpegs created from a DTivo so the mpegs are all at 480X480 @15MBit and the audio is at 48kHz. SA Tivo mpegs will vary in resolution depending on the quality setting of the recording. If you open the file in DVDPatcher you'll see what the resolution and bitrate is for your mpeg files.

Can someone explain just what changing the resolution in the 1st header actually does? Is it just to get the processing software to accept the file? Ie I don't understand why just changing the header doesn't result in video that is altered in shape or scrambled in some way.
Where did the 352x480 come from? Is that a way to convert a square 480x480 into a 4:3 aspect ratio or something? But when you do this only to the header, and don't process the file, how is it doing anything?
Sorry for being confused.

I think 352x480 comes from one of the Standard DVD (http://www.digvid.info/media/dvd.php) video sizes. So you have to trick the software in thinking you're going to process a standard DVD video file, and not a non DVD standard 480x480.
