Has anyone experienced EXTREMELLY SLOW ie 20-75kbs transfer rates with a switch (I use an 8 port Linksys) it's showing as being full duplex

And when I change to just a 10MBS HUB - the transfer rates go to 500+.

HMM?

A duplex mismatch will easily kill your performance when connected to a switch.

By a mismatch, I mean that the two sides wind up with different duplex settings, i.e. one is at half and the other is at full.

Chances are, you PC is set to auto (as are most of the cheapie switche's ports) and one side is going to half and the other to full.

Try hard setting your duplex to one or another and see what happens. This ocurrence is pretty normal... and just happens sometimes with particular hardware.

Yes:

I have noticed this (the auto setting)

what are the TIVO's set at.

I do know that your network is as fast as your slowest device. How true that is in life eh?

Anyway - Is there a way to set the tivo's to half or full?

What is a turbonet card by default?

What can I edit or check out on the tivo to find out?

Thanks again.

I had mfsstream installed in the Tivo a while back. On one computer you could get about 2MBs through TivoWeb MFStream download, but on mine you get about 20KBs. But what's odd is on my computer I could get full speed using FTP.

But I had since fixed that since now I use tserver_mfs6 from TyTool, and now I get full speed again.

Turbonet by default should auto negotiate. So if you connect it to a 100 switch, you should get a 100 Full Duplex connection. ***** lights on the switch can usually verify this. Normally in the linux stuff I've seen these modes are set using driver parameters or a tool llike mii.

For Turbonet, there are newer drivers available here that fix some issues observed with 100 Mpbs connections.

There are also docs there to tell you the features of the driver. Including how to enable different levels of logging. You might want to try that and inspect the results if you suspect issues.

I use a plain 5-port Linksys with a Linksys NIC and Turbonet NIC on WinXP. I use 'auto' for duplex and it shows full duplex.

Speeds are a pretty steady 1.2 - 1.3 megs per second.

My results seems pretty typical, according to what people report. But there are people who claim steady 1.5-1.6 megs per second too.

I only found the drivers as of 03 23 2003

I believe those are the drivers I used. Because I didn't do my first turbonet until after that.... ???

Unforunately 'when' we did our turbonets doesn't tell us what version we have.

But, if you want to know what the driver autonegotiated and what version you have, you'll have to use a debug version. At least that's what I've found by reading the forums. Haven't had the need myself since everything just worked. Do some searches both here and on the tivocommunity forums and you'll see postings from the author of the driver with lots of good info.

Edited for typo.
