View Full Version : navigation pack errors generated by dvdlab?

One convenient way to archive-to-DVD ty programs is to use TyTools to extract and generate mpg files, dvdlab to create menus and DVD VOBs and, finally, DVDshrink to compress the existing DVD structures, if necessary.
This procedure should work well, but it doesn't for me: if the DVD structures generated by (any version of) dvdlab amount to more than 4.3GB(say 5.10GB), dvdshrink reports the error:
invalid nv_pck: nv_vobu_ea
which is characterized by the dvdshrink author as a navigation pack error and it is observed to be so when played in WinDVD or other PC software DVD players.
Things work ok if the size of the DVD structures are less than 4.3GB(i.e. dvdshrink does not complain and it plays in SW and HD DVD players).
Did anybody else experienced these errors and are they related to navigation pack errors previously reported by bato?
If you create a mpg from TyTool where you cut commercials, then you will end with a non-continous GOP time code stamps, then if you put chapter points in DVDlab they will not work right and some may even point at some odd values, that can create problems.
In previous version of DVDlab (1.2) and TyTool (7r3) I created a VOB with TyTool with chapter points (1 new cell ID every 5min) and DVDlab created wrong NAV packs when used the VOB (even with the GOP time code fix with VOBedit/mpeg2vcr).
A fast test with DVDlab 1.2.2b and TyTool7r6 and I didn't find any NAV errors with the final VOBs. The original VOB contained 1 new cell ID every minute, and the final VOB from DVDlab only contained 6 because I placed 5 chapter stops in the movie.
Do you fix the time code in your mpgs prior to import into DVDlab?
Do you use mpgs and then select flexible muxer?
Do you use VOB-mux files from TyTool, or VOBs from creating IFO files/dirs?
Do you put chapters in DVDlab?
You can check your VOBs (in your 5.xGB projects) with VOBedit to find out if you have NAV packs with odd information like negative values or to big values. If you do, then you need to change the way you create/fix your files prior to using DVDlab.
I think Oscar needs to work harder with the VOB support, still many problems for many users. But if you use mpg then it's another issue.

I have been having the problems with dvd-lab and getting the chapters to work correctly. It seems that the frame that it uses to show the chapter sometimes is WAY off from where it puts you in the movie. Here is my workflow:
1. Tytool 7r7a
2. create keys and edit to remove junk at the beginning and end.
3. mux to mpg
4. dvd-lab 1.2.2a, allowing dvdlab to remux into elementals.
5. create menus, etc.
I have been able to burn TV Shows and movies recorded from HBO, etc. The only problem has been the chapter points. I have also seen some more complicated work flows, but don't know what benifit I would get from the more complex flows... If there is a better way, let me know! I am running out of time on the dvd-lab and would like to buy it if it is the best tool out there to author dvd's with....
Thanks,
