I able to follow the instructions to add a hard drive, but the telnet and extraction stuff (I have an HDVR2) seems way over my Linux-deficient head. While I would love to do all that on a regular basis (if I have missed some easy to follow instrucitons, please advise), what currently matters to me are my recordings of the College World Series, which I want to put on DVD. So I have this question: Would it be easier for a newbie like me to pull out the hard drives, install them in a box running linux, and just copy them to another drive where I could then work with them in Windows. If so, how would I do that?

I know there is a way but it's kindof hard and not well doced(only a few do it this way) you might want to just get a tivo/turbonet card. I know it looks like a lot but once you get it :D

My understanding was that the cards don't work on HDVR2. I could use the USB to connect to my network, if that is simple.

The series 2 Tivos don't have the edge connector on the mainboard for installing a Turbonet adapter. I believe there are now viable methods for extracting videos from series 2 DTivos but I'm unfamiliar with the process. Look in the Series 2 Tivo Hacking Forum for more info.

We're losing focus here. I know that HDVR2 has USB. I am not blind. My question is whether there is a known way to extract video by pulling the drives out of the TiVo and putting them in a Linux box. See my original post. I would appreciate any help. Sorry if I sound cranky. It's one of those days.
