serial port on computer

I have a tivo cable with a gender bender and a null modem adapter.

I have 3 computers.

My computer that I am on now, WinXP, won't echo back in hyperterminal or CRT.

My sisters computer with Win98 won't echo back in hyperterminal.

My parents computer will echo back fine in Win XP.

I have tried all the settings in the bios, anyone know what the problem may be?

If you want it to echo back, you need to loop back tx to rx.

i figured it out, i didn't need a null modem adapter for the 2 that didn't echo...

having some problems with no video stream in the tivo
background now, hopefully i can fix it.
