Hi guys, i'm looking for somone in Las Vegas that I can meet up with who will tweak my Philips DSR6000R01 with all the cool software and features you guys are all raving about... especially the one that disables the demo mode (fixdemo.tcl).
All I know about the unit I have... it works, its never been modified in any way, and it has software version 3.1
I will pay good money for your time and expertise, and you'll make a cool new connection in the Directv biz! Thanks!!

Why pay someone for something you can easily do yourself. This is basically a DIY forum so you're better off learning to do it yourself anyway. Follow the tips in my signature below and you'll find everything you need to do the upgrade.
My recommendation would be to install 2.5Xtreme and then upgrade it to either 2.5.2 or 3.1. Most of the popular hacks, including fixdemo, are included in the upgrade. You should be able to install 2.5Xtreme and the upgrade in about an hour to an hour and a half, assuming you don't run into any problems.
If you want to install any software for extracting videos then you'll have to do that manually. Drivers for Turbonet and Airnet are already included in the upgrade software as well as ftp and telnet applications for the Tivo.

I would love to do it myself! I have read all the sticky's and found TONS of info all over the web, but nothing is a step-by-step start to finish guide.... i'm a very advanced computer user/programmer/builder and if this was like cloning a drive or something I could handle it! I cant find anything in plain english on how to even interface with the DTivo!
Let me ask you guys this... is all this software stored on the HD? or is it like firmware? If its on the HD, does anyone have a drive for sale that has all this software and the demo killer that I could buy and just plug in and go?? or I could send you a HD and i'll pay you to set it all up for me?
PS. keep in mind that I am not stealing service or anything, I am an authorized Directv dealer and this unit has a demo card in it.... all I really care about is a way to stop this annoying demo loop from starting automatically!!!

If you just want to kill the demo mode then you'll still need to set up bash on your DTivo as an absolute minimum. If you're the least bit computer savvy then you can install 2.5Xtreme and the 2.5.2/3.1 upgrade in your sleep. Look in the How Tos Only sticky on page 3 and you'll find several posts under my user name with links to tutorials, file downloads, and other Tivo-related sites. I'd recommend downloading the 2.5Xtreme image from the tivostuff website as it seems to be working for most people. There should also be a link for the 2.5Xtreme installation instructions in my post.
Check out Superzap's upgrade thread and download the readme file on the 1st page of the thread for installation instructions. I'd strongly recommend reading through the DTivo Hacking FAQ before you do anything as most of your questions will be answered there.

Have you talked to 9thtee, ptvupgrade, or another dealer about buying a pre-imaged drive?
You might not be able to override demo mode without hacking your card. A felon I knew once caused his unit to enter demo mode and even fixdemo.tcl was ineffective as his illegally hacked card continued to tell the unit to re-enter demo mode. Fortunately the problem went away when he put the original image back on the card, ran fixdemo.tcl, and started his legitimate DTV subscription.

FYI, fixdemo will not work on 3.1 tivos, the problem has to be fixed in your card.

OK, but if I put this xtreme thing on it, wont that blow out the 3.1 Tivo software?? what I was thinking of doing was install the xtreme on a new 80G drive and using it instead of the factory one thats in there now.
OR better yet, buying a pre-imaged drive with xtreme 2.52 and all the goodies like the demo killer all configured.... ideally i'd like to be able to simply install the drive and go!

The fix demo you write about is not fixable on 3.1 Since you say you are a directv dealer with a demo card this must by elimination be a P4 card. No matter what you HD you buy from whoever this problem will not go away. (You need to call your boss DTV and tell the guy dave who works there to send you a P3 card out of their 20 million card inventory) <-----JUST JOKING ..seriously you need to READ MORE about 3.1 and about P4 cards before buying anything.

It can all be easily fixed by loading Xtreme 2.5 and fixdemo.tcl

Actually, I can think of a very blunt yet effective software mod off the top of my head (a mere 2-4 bytes long) that will eliminate demo mode on any 3.1 unit. I believe the only other side effect it would have would involve local channels. Developing a version that does not affect locals may be almost as easy.
It's not too hard once you do a little research and figure out what bit is causing the unit to pop into demo mode and how that data is communicated to the TiVo... (hint: the attribute in MFS is a symptom of the problem, usually not the cause)

This is inevitable guys, don't bother trying to tell him to not spend anything, his mind is already set, his choice has already been made.

Much/most of America's economy relies on the fact that people are willing to pay others to do things they are not willing to learn. Self sufficiency is a noble goal but some people just do not have the time or brainpower to learn how to fix their car, repair their PC, remodel their home, and hack their TiVo.
Newbies who come here demanding detailed explanations of their screwups, e-z 1-click service theft tools, and instant gratification are far more destructive than a gentleman who is looking for somebody to solve his problems in exchange for monetary compensation. The former group is substantially more "fool"ish than the latter by any measure.

ok guys, all this slamming and insults are really out of line in my opinion... I havnt insulted any of you, and I think your insults toward me are unfounded!!! NONE of you know me or anything about me! I ALSO "tell it like it is" and all my posts have been 100% truthful and yet you continue to imply that I am stealing service etc. etc!
There isnt much I cant do... but since you also dont realize the scope and size of my Directv business, you also dont realize how busy I am!!
I carry a full service route everyday and I work OUTSIDE in the 118 degree Las Vegas heat... i'm not up to doing much when I get home, and with my brain being baked all day its hard to focus on something that is seemingly so complex like hacking a Tivo!!
I'm a very nice and friendly guy, and its totally not cool that because I am a "newbie" here that I have to accept all this hassle by default! I am 36 years old and not some punk kid, I have learned most of my skills thru watching other people and practical experience, perhaps my learning skills are just not condusive to a barrage of mixed opinons and sitcky's!! I have MADE the effort to read ALL this stuff and TRIED to understand it, but it just isnt clicking (no pun intended)... perhaps if "onyx00" comes out here and shows me some of this stuff, that will give me a practical knowledge that I can build on.
BTW, yes... my Directv/Tivo demo is a P4 card, they couldnt activate it with one of my P3's because (they said) verison 3.1 wont work with an access card starting with lower than 0005 4XXX XXXX. I have 6 demo's the other 5 are all P3's, and are all in standard receivers.
For the record, my comments are NOT directed at "David Bought" because I quoted him, they are a result of "AlphaWolf" as well as some other rude remarks from others members in my other posts, including 1 moderator who's name I wont mention.

errrr... I thought his post was a compliment. Maybe you should re-read it. He even called you a gentleman. I REALLY think you took it the wrong way.

Once again, I think you missed what he was saying. He referred to the former looking for service theft tools, and YOU being in the latter.

OK here goes. The onlyest read this CAREFULLY
You have 5 other p3 cards. take your p4 and swap it with another one of your recievers. Dont ever look or mention it again( to me at least, I have 17 I cant use) Now go to the part about what directv said......FORGET IT....useless.
NOW, look one page back and find the post with NEWBIE guide part 1 + 2 by member "thadude". If you follow this post word for word ( both the 2.5 install and the 2.5.2) you will be wathcing tivo tv in an hour and a half. You DONT need a serial cable for bash just your remote control.
You also need to read everything first, then again slowly because its alot to take in, and from your posts above you missed alot of advice and good info. when you get done post or PM me and one of us will give you the xplusz code for fixdemo.
Mr. bought referred to you as the LATTER BTW .......and nobody slammed you being a newbie. This is a self explanatory forum. Nobody here doubts you work hard ( Im just a dumb greek busting my ass 17 hrs. a day 7 dys a week in a restaurant, what do I know) but these guys MADE these hacks and paying somebody for them kills the thoery behind their work. Im sure you have done many things in life per written instructions and not shown to you first hand. Try it first, ( there is no hard physical work, just brainpower ) and I bet youll be shocked how easy you hack your mahcine and how proud you are after. If you get stuck THEN post and well help you out, (I will at least). BTW jjbliss and alphawolf wrote some of these hacks without the intention of paying for them, so buying them from someone is and insult ( you are new and didnt know IS an excuse) but NOW you do. DO IT YOURSELF and youll be a happier man
Just for sake YOU DO HAVE a series one right???( DSR6000 or GXCEBOT or T60)

Greek, I cant just switch cards around, they are married to their respective receivers... I 1st attempted to put each of the 5 other P3 demo cards I had in the dtivo and each time I got the error "Incompatible Card, please call customer service ext.752" I asked somone I "know" at dealer services if marrying one of the existing P3 demo cards to the dtivo would clear the error and work ok... thats when he told me about it not working with a card lower than 0005 4... so, I grabbed a new P4 card, put it in and presto, I have my 6th active full service demo compliments of Directv... complete with an invinceable demo mode that starts every 15-20 minutes NO MATTER WHAT... even in playback mode.
Now, what I can do is this... if the demo kill program WILL work with the xtreme2.5 AND xtreme2.5 will work with a P3... I will have Directv kill the P4 and then swap one of my existing P3's into it and have Directv swap the service to the dtivo box the next day or something... the 1 cool thing about the demo is, no phone line required... so my drive should never get messed up once its set up.
To answer your question, I have a Philips DSR6000R01, factory HD, Software version 3.1001-1001 or something like that, it works great but the cooling fan is loud and annoying, BUT not as loud and annoying as the demo mode!!! "knock knock knock... excuse me!"

OK heres the problem. Directv told you that because they will not activate a p3 card for a directv tivo.
follow me on this
when they first came out they had 2.0 on them but no dual tuner was enabled. then 2.5 came out then 2.5.2 was an " update" then 3.1 came out. If you have a legit tivo the phone line must be plugged in and it will call home to tivo HeadQrtrs and update automatically to 3.1 NOW 2.5 xtrme takes care of this because you dont need a phone line. They will not activate that tivo even if you swap the p4 for a p3 once you give them the reciever serial #. THE only choice I can think of is to send the card to someone who can unmarry it ( like myself ) and then hack your tivo via 2.5 then 2.5.2. You then run the no phone option via remote control and then presto you pop in your unmarried p3 and it will marry your tivo. Now you have tivo functionality and DTV. then you run fix demo and your golden.....there is no legit DTV way to do this with your situation and a demo......I know thats not what you want to hear. If you wanna discuss this option you CANNOT do it here because its not allowed. PM me and I will fill you in fully on your options..

Alright, here is the deal guys:
I am gonna be there in early August so I am going to help, FOR FREE. No charge, not looking for anything out of this. He obviously does not feel comfortable doing this himself so I will do it.
Now, my plan was ot just Xtreme it with 2.5 (not 2.5.2) and get nodemo.tcl running. Figure keep it simple. Now, I would think this should work, but if not, post a reason why you think not.
